I really wonder how interesting Kyle Rayner going around space with a group of Guardians will be. I'm really honestly curious about how that will work.

I typically like Green Lantern doing space stuff, but I think this particular character works best as an Earth based hero. And there is a real void of Earth based Green Lantern stuff going on right now. To my understanding, the only one who will be there is Baz, and I kind of don't count him on grounds of being so lame, and on grounds of being in a book that doesn't have the Green Lantern perspective.

What I'm getting at is this is not the direction I would be taking the character in, but I guess it would be ridiculous to have White Lantern as an Earth based hero.
Also, I'm not really feeling that cover. It would be better if Kyle's upper body was more trim and less blocky.

I can't help but think that if JOHN had been tapped to ferry the Guardians around, meeting funky alien species, it could have felt a lot like a return to his Mosaic days. Which would have been unbelievably cool if done well.

I give it a 3 - this is the first time in a while that some of Kyle's conversations have felt like it was "Kyle" talking. It's got me a little hopeful. Would have given it a 4, but some of the art details are a little lacking to me.

I really don't understand what's going on here, the scene with Carol and Kyle. Feels like they are back tracking everything that just happened between Carol and Hal. They're done already WTF?!

I was thinking about that when I saw this scene:

I was like, "oh damn. You gonna' pound into that, Kyle!?" : o

Just for the sake of this particular issue, I kinda' hope he does, 'cuz otherwise da fuq, Justin Jordan!? What the hell does Hal's love life have to do with this comic!? This better mean something really important to Kyle, because if it doesn't, then goddamn!!! Stop wasting my pages on this shit! It was bad enough in Hal's book, but at least it made some measure of sense over there. I definitely don't want to see this crap over here!

Unless something is going to happen between Kyle and Carol, the scene in Kyle's apartment did not even need to happen. The way I see these sorts of comics is that they are quite short, and these ones only come out once a month, so I don't like it when panels are wasted.

As for the art, the way they depict space gets really redundant. I know it's space and all, but black background with white dots gets old, really, REALLY fast. And it's ALL OVER THE PLACE! I feel they could have done something to make the visual environment more interesting. The space sharks are a neat concept and design, though!

As for the drawings of the characters, the only time I had a problem was some of the panels in Kyle's apartment. The art is better than the "Green Lantern" book in some ways, but it's still not really great to me. I feel this book looks same-ish from scene to scene in an unflattering way, and thus somewhat tiring. "Green Lantern" did not have that problem. The previews gave me a better visual impression than the book as a whole. I applaud Brad Walker for making Kyle look okay when he's in the White Lantern getup. His is, by far, the best depiction. All the others I've seen look absolutely terrible, in my opinion.

I think the best thing about this issue is that Kyle Rayner seems very in character. He speaks with the voice that Ron Marz gave him, and that is actually quite a feat. Actually... maybe it isn't that much of a feat, but a lot of other writers just drop the ball there, so this is nice. Exeter is an interesting character and the concept of "the old universe" is intriguing.

2 stars from me. While the comic isn't terrible, I see quite a few things that I feel could be better. The Carol stuff really makes me scratch my head. Unless they're going somewhere with a Kyle/Carol thing, (and I'm not sure how good of an idea that would be, but I'm open minded), or going somewhere useful at all involving Kyle with this, then the scene with Carol knocks a lot out of the book, but there are other faults with it. They're starting to make me dread seeing Carol Ferris, and I don't think that's a good thing >____<

                        Lazy writing!

Let’s hope it’s just a scene and nothing more.

I actually liked the apartment scene.
                          - We're getting to see Kyle outside of the costume
                          - Carol is really the only friend Kyle has communicated with lately so they are obviously going to talk about what's going on in her life at the moment.
                          - Carol was a member of the previous New Guardians team, so it's not odd that she still pops up in the book. I'm sure the others will pop up from time to time.
                          - Hal and Carol will probably be the last human contact Kyle will have for a while until probably the next cross over.

Only nitpick I have is that the Guardians are now using green energy power when they were using white power before. :/

Not sure what the whole light smith alt cover is about. Maybe qwardian related? Guess we'll see later.
