  • Kyle Rayner's Daughter

this has been bugging me forever. a while back i stumbled across something about the lanterns in a storyline in the future with the legion of superheroes and it had something to do with this girl being kyle rayner's daughter. i can't find any literature on it anymore and i was hoping someone would know what i'm talking about....what's her name?!

    Cary Wren?

And she's not his daughter... she's like his great-great-great-great-great-great-great times 200 granddaughter.

Yeah. She was in Green Lantern #98/99 (vol.3), if I'm not mistaken.

Yep. That was the 2-3 part storyline that happened immediately before the "Emerald Knights" storyline which was, of course, the best thing Ron Marz wrote in his entire run on the book! But that's just a given, because it was also the first time Hal Jordan was seen as his old self after that pile of dog shit Marz crapped out (under orders from Editor Kevin "The Dickhead" Dooley) that came to be known as "Emerald Twilight".

But yeah, after Kyle gets time warped into the 31st Century and has an adventure with the Legion of Superheroes and his descendant Cary Wren, Braniac 5 attempts to send Kyle back to his correct time (stated as something like "back to a time when there should be Green Lanterns") and Kyle finds himself transported back to a time 10 years before he became GL, when Hal Jordan is still Green Lantern and the Corps is still around. Pretty cool story, and at the end of it, Kyle ends up with a duplicate of Hal's ring, which was the first step towards rebuilding Oa and the Corps, and undoing the blasphemies of "Emerald Twilight".

Are sure you're not thinking of the Circle Of Fire Storyline where there was a great-great-great-great granddaughter of Kyle and Wally, who had GL and Flash powers but could only use one a day?

No, you're thinking of "Green Lightning". She was a descendant of Wally and Kyle, in the Circle of Fire mini. Who in fact, along with all the other GL's were either from Parallel Universes or figments of Kyle's imagination. I forget which.

            Green Lightning - http://www.hyperborea.org/flash/greenlightning.html

Cary Wren - http://www.glcorps.org/carywren.html (Someone should make a page for her at the GL wiki)

Cary was a direct descendant of Kyle's in GL Vol 3 #98. She gave back the ring at the end of the issue.

The problem with that is it means Kyle as to have a kid at one point, and that kid has to survive, or else Kyle has to live until he sires a kid and so on

It really limits a character if you go down that road

It looked to me as if she was totally human. So Kyle would need to have a baby with an Earth girl right. Unless he has a kid with Natu and then it goes to earth and has children and so on.

Or that over time his descendants breed with more human than alien partners and the alien characteristics are gradually bred out.

You sound fucking ridiculous. Only if you have absolutely no talent is it limiting a character by giving them a child.

The only comic characters who have kids still alive that are still headlining a book is Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman. Wally had kids.... and now he's hardly a Flash. Aquaman had kids and.... well they were killed. Most characters with kids get written into corners until the only thing left to do is kill them. Donna Troy, Roy Harper, Spiderman [although his daughter was never in the 616 alive IIRC], Powergirl, etc....

Damian Wayne/Al Ghul hopefully never gets a solo Robin book, it's retarded there are as many Robins and ex-Robins running around as there are....
