  • Geoff Johns Comments on GL Animated Series

Geoff was asked this weekend at Emerald City ComiCon about the possibility of a Green Lantern animated series. I think his answer will be pleasing to many...

I'm not going to care until I hear that such a series would be on a regular network. I don't get cable.

And the chances of that, these days, are pretty much nil.

There's always the likelihood that it'll also be published on Hulu, or a similar online service.

Because we all know that's the same experience...

Hopefully this series will be more original than any sort of adaptation. Everything doesn't need to be adapted. Superman, Batman, Teen titans and Justice League were (for the most part) original stories. They all worked.

I could see it working if they did a "Tales of the GLC" kind of thing, basically the same origins and characters from the comics, but tell some new stories, things that haven't been covered in the comics.

Hell, even some new characters couldn't hurt, though I'd still like to see it center around the most popular, famous characters, otherwise, what's the point.

I agree, it blows waiting for the second season of clone wars to hit on Blu-Ray...

But I got tired of the shit programming and having to pay their inflated monthly charges and then buy the season anyway, when it comes out.

This could be done just like JLU. It included the big 7 that are very popular with everyone and still managed to have stand alone episodes with the other members of the JLA. You have the show focus on the core characters primarily (Hal, Kyle, John, Guy, Ganthet, Kilowog, Sinestro, Abin, Tomar, etc etc etc.
I LOVE conspiracy theorists. They are like human versions of the cymbal clapping, dancing monkeys. No one takes them all that seriously and they get bored with them after about 10 minutes.

Actually, that would probably be OK by me, except, of course, that I also have a slow connection. So watching a half-hour episode would probably require letting it download for far longer than that before I started watching.

Which I might do, if that's my only option (I'm generally unwilling to buy seasons of something sight unseen, so I wouldn't just wait for the DVD), but I will admit it will be annoying.

Yeah, he mentioned that. But they also mentioned there was talks about it at last year's ECCC.

So yeah. TPTB are always talking about a GL animated series.

Well, it's good to know that they're still talking, it could be worse, they could be saying flat-out "no"

Well I was referring to the characters we love. It can star Hal Jordan, with the large supporting cast of the Corps and those friends on Earth, but I don't necessarily want to see a bunch of multicolored lanterns. There's so much potential in this that it shouldn't (and most certainly doesn't need) to adapt something from comics.

I completely agree, as long as they don't stray too far from comic continuity, I think they could have a good show while staying ambiguous in the timeline so as not to retcon certain things that have occurred in the comics. I'd love a series about Hal and the Corps and various adventures that we haven't seen in the comics, I mean, they've got a pretty unlimited scope there. I think you're right.

there needs to be one, superman and batman...wonderwoman....tons of superheroes have either had a animated show or a show with actual people.

why not give a show of any kind to the Lantern series?

im hoping his maybe is a yes, but its still just a maybe

If a GL animated series is handled seriously and not made as a kids show it should be good. And the art style for the show should NOT be like brave and the bold or even JLU it should be as realistic as possible.
