  • Another Animated Green Lantern Movie?

Is another Green Lantern animated film on the way?

A Green Lantern animated project is in the works at Warner Bros. Animation, The Continuum has learned.

According to sources, it will be part of a direct-to-video project that will be timed for release of the live-action Green Lantern movie in the summer of 2011.

A representative of Warner Home Video said the studio will not comment on any film that hasn't been announced as in production.

According to sources, the new Green Lantern animated project takes a look at the origins of the Green Lantern Corps, including the first ring wielders.

At Emerald City Comic-Con last weekend, DC Comics' Geoff Johns hinted at a Green Lantern animated series, which would appear to be a different project.

If this happens I will be very very happy.

Hmm, interesting. Maybe it's going to come down to one project, and they haven't decided which one to go with yet.

Let's hope not, because there shouldn't be any doubt that a series is better than another animated movie.

I don't know if I care much about an animated movie taking place in the past about the origins of the corps. I'd much rather that subject be told in the comics where they can take more time with it and it would be canonical. They played so fast and loose with the GLC mythos in "First Flight", it makes an origin of the corps film almost superfluous. (it could still be good, but not something I'd take as any kind of canonical representation of history)

Maybe this will just be a short to be included in "Under the Red Hood" or something? As a movie tie-in, it wouldn't surprise me if we got a "Tales of the Corps" animated shorts by various creators a la the Matrix or Batman. I'd actually love if they had prequel tales within the GL movie universe featuring Abin Sur or Sinestro or Salaak. Or even a civilian Hal Jordan.

Was the first GL animated movie a financial success? I would be interested in seeing another flick, just to fill time.

If they do release it around the time the movie is set to debut, it would be an excellent marketing success

I really enjoyed 'First Flight', even with the retconning. I would be quite happy to see another animated movie deal with the Manhunters and the beginnings of The Corps, leading into a modern day story with Hal as a pilot for a GL animated series. Especially if the latter focused on some of the other Corps members from time to time.

I say they start over with animated GL, do an animated film that ties into the movie as a backdoor pilot for the series... win-win and we can forget that First Flight ever happened.

If they ever do a animated Blackest Night, the better make it a Trilogy. Don't chop it up into a nicely package 90min flick, ala Planet Hulk.

This is exactly why I think a series would be better for GL, but at the same time... we've already seen it in the comics, what more is there to see :P Original stories might be better.
