Jade is/was "human", people fuck up. Doesn't make them bad, just means they make mistakes.

No, I don't think Jade cheating on Kyle should be retconned away.It is what it is.It will make him stronger down the line, and then his relationship he has now will hopefully have more meaning.

Excuse me, but no.
Jen's cheating didn't affected Kyle's terrible attitude when it comes to strong feelings. He really is a sweet guy but self-centered like a three-years old kid when he is suffering. Loosing Jen should have teached him that you are gonna lose precious things if you do not take care of them properly - just like when he let Donna push him away - but a page later Jen has dumped him, he is again brooding about HIS goals in life and HIS place in the world. It's all about him all over again, and it goes on this way even now.
What affected Kyle significantly was Jen's death rather than her cheating, but that made him considerably more fragile if anything... nothing like Alex's death, that made Kyle stronger and that was intended to be character development.
Jen's cheating was editorial mandate in a moment in wich the last thing DC wanted was to develop Kyle's character, they were simply pushing him away from Earth and therefore cutting all of his ties with Earth - up to the absurdity of his father no longer being his father. It is involution rather than evolution.
Otherwise, breaking up with Kyle could have been -and actually was, even if not as awesome as it could - great character development for Jade. She had little time on her own, though, before being killed abruptly. So long for you indipendence, Jen...!
I have a (tiny) hope that this idea of Jenny living her life for herself would be picked up now that she's back to life.
Wrapping things up, as I digressed wildly like I usually do:
- Jen's cheating was no real character development for Kyle
- it could have been great character development for Jen but the signals we have so far go rather in the opposite direction
- the only thing that came out of it was fanboys sympathizing with Kyle out of cock solidariety and a permanent label of slut for Jenny
- all this considered, RETCONS STINKS and it would be just ridicolous to retcon such an everyday life thing away... really, WTF?!?

I say no... and no more rectons!! As bad as the writing was and as out of character as it seemed for Jade, it was a defining moment for Kyle and Green Lantern history. Were Kyle a lesser man, he could have went Koo-koo for Cocoa Puffs started hacking shit up before taking more outer space missions. Instead of looking at Jade's betrayal, try looking at Kyle's strength.

They just talk about Jen's death and Kyle's eternal love for her and the breakup, but not really what caused it. And hahaa, yessss, thank you for this post. Jade's cheating did crap for Kyle, it existed for the last thing tying Kyle to earth to be taken away from him (well, other than his mother being alive), and pushing him away from that planet. And as you said, it could have been great development for Jen, but it's not like DC ever cared about that in the first place.
