Well for starters...

Hal wouldn't have the guts to get a yellow ring like Guy did. He would try to win the mantle back in a more straight-forward way. My scenario is this:

Hal loses ring. He resigns himself to taking care of Carol. Meanwhile, Guy is living large and proud as the Green Lantern of Earth. He takes on the challenges of Eclipso, Evil Star, and Justice League duties.

Third Law. Arisia finds Guy but he couldn't understand the significance of the New Guardians' disappearance. He joins Boodika in attacking Krona first. John Stewart leads the charge instead of Hal.

Doomsday happens. Guy finds himself beaten into a pulp due to his cockiness. He is temporarily incapacitated. Meanwhile, Hal is approached by John to replace Guy on Earth.

Then, I'd say Coast City happens, but instead of just one Green Lantern, two Green Lanterns are out for revenge.

Guy and Hal are engaged in a knockdown drag-out street fight to determine who gets to stay Green Lantern of Earth and who is forced t leave the Corps.
Guy's been lulled into beating on Hal's defences tiring him out but:
Guy: (backing away) ahuh ahuh sn-sneaky Jordan....really good strategy....but I'm done yet.
John: (Realizing) Damn!
Hal: Ok Guy....let's finish this. (Hal moves in thinking Guy's spent enough to finish off his first three punches nearly confirm this as Guy flounders under the barrage. but Guy rolls up to his knees and shakily stands
Guy: you're gonna have to put my lights out Jordan. a knockdown won't be enough. not this time. like I said. No "One Punch!" (Guy intakes some air and sets himself for Hal's Next assault) Hal looks at his friends... closes his eyes
opens them and looks at Gardner who has just Ice, General Glory and G'nort cheering for him Kilowog has been non-commital throughout the entire fight being the friend caught in the middle)
Hal:This is my last chance. If I can't put him down now I'm gonna have to settle for flying planes from now on OK Guy. you're done.
(Hal moves in throwing picture perfect punches but Guy starts slapping them away or ducking them to everyone's surprise. Guy Starts counter-punching every punch hal throws and Hal staggers Guy ducks one last haymaker and then slams his fist right up into Hal's chin sending him flying back against the wall. Hal slumps to the ground out cold. The Justice League and the majority of present Green Lanterns groan. Guy falls back against the wall himself almost dead tired but staying concsious. He looks up and sees Tora and the General and smiles with pride
Guy: Glad i don't have to do that every day. (Hal starts coming to with a Groan) Jordan.....
Hal: Almost had you Gardner.
Guy: You didn't fail anything Jordan. not anything, not anyone. but you did lose.
John: Hal, don't we'll back you up all the way. no way the guardians will let this stand... (Suddenly a light from Johns ring bursts out and a hologram of Ganthet appears
Ganthet: Lantern Stewart you will take no action. we have been monitoring this entire event. a challenge was made and accepted. You and the recruits are to proceed to Oa immediately It is between 2814 and his opponent to decide how this will conclude.
Guy: See you 'Round Stewart.(Guy and Hal stand Hal extends his hand. Guy smirks then seeing the General nods and takes Hal's hand shaking it. As their hands pull away from each other:
Hal:you're the Man now (Guy's fingers tighten around Hal's Ring pulling it from his Hand Hal is left in his civillian clothes one of his eyes is blackened from the fight)
Guy: (grinning broadly) You got that right! (Tora rushes over hugging Guy as the General slaps him on the back in congradulations)
Hal to himself: This isn't over Gardner. (no one notices Hal's hand glow with a greenish light:
