Let's face it though, my real name is Kyle and like a good deal of other Kyles that are fans of Rayner and Green Lantern, we're extremely biased for that very reason. Honestly though, while the debate between the two will always rage on, I'd kill for an ongoing starring Kyle AND Hal.
Yeah, seriously, all you rotten poozers.

Just because you have the same name as someone doesn't mean you have to love them. My name is Spencer, but I don't care at all about Spencer Pratt.

The debate doesn't always have to rage on. If things continue the way they are, Kyle fans could die out in a decade. Look at what happened to Barry. How many of his fans are left? It's all about age. Most current comic fans grew up with Kyle in the 90's.

To be clear, I'm not bashing Kyle in any way, merely stating what I believe to be fact. Another common example is favorite James Bond. Even if you think Connery is the best, your favorite will be who you grew up on.

No, but it can help sway things. I'll stop there though, because I took your response the wrong way, so part of me dislikes the way it was worded. That's my fault though.

      • Sorry, that certainly wasn't my intention. I tried to get that across with this:

Perhaps the name argument was a bit unnecessary. Perhaps it's just my frustration with the fact that every time I hear my name on TV now, it's followed by "douche bag."

Heh, yeah, I always juggle how I'm going to fully respond and I end up changing my mind sometimes, so I edit my messages way too much until I get what feels right, though it not always is and I'm not always done in time to not throw someone off. I'm working on it lol.

I wouldn't worry about that last part I said though, it happens with me sometimes, but that's the negative part of text.

              • It's Kyle. Most of us (I think) Started with him, he had better villains, a better story, a relatable character, and lots of ladies. Dead ones....

                  • I started reading Green Lantern with the first issue of V. 3. That said it wasn't until Kyle took over the mantle that I really cared, until about issue 140 or so. The main problem I had with Kyle for the last 40 or so issues of his run was that he was written very poorly. The same problem I had with Hal the first 50 issues of that run. I really like Hal now but that is probably just due to Geoff. I mean the Flash went from a must read to garbage after he left and I fear the same for the current book. I think Kyle's been misused for years but still remember his glory days and relish them. I may be alone in this but I haven't enjoyed Green Lantern Corps. I really liked Kyle's run under Grant Morrison in JLA and have to say I dislike John Stewart, he's just never done it for me as a character. I'd really like to see Geoff do a Kyle or Guy run in the main book.

That was classic. If I see that ever again, anywhere else... I'll rip their eyes out shove them down their throat, after beating them with them, and piss i their eye sockets while slowly thrusting a knife into their spleen.

                          • I started reading comics during the 90s when Kyle was GL. Never liked him. Collected back issues with Hal. Started reading again when they brought him back. So yeah basically is my man.

                            • Wow, it's a dead heat, 83 each! I guess I get the satisfaction of breaking a tie before someone else votes!

Anyways, this is a slightly tough one for me. Like a lot of others here I got into GL in the 90s, post ET. With Grant Morrison's JLA run, actually. I loved Kyle in that JLA run, still my favorite GL portrayal ever. I was disappointed when they announced Hal's return, because I expected Kyle to be shunted off into the background (and he has been). But I've never disliked Hal as a character and was eager to read new stories with him when Rebirth was announced. Looking back now at the Marz run, though, I'm still glad it happened and we got a new character, but the quality of GL v4 just seems better in comparision. I don't think that's because of Hal, but I'm sure the Hal only fans will disagree.

So Kyle's still my main GL, but nowadays it feels like I'm saying that out of nostalgia. Having said all that, I'd give my left nut for a Morrison written GLC with Kyle and Guy in the lead.

                              • i never really got into green lantern until like 5 years ago when i had saw an anouncement for rebirth in a local comic shop. Looked interesting so i took a look and was hooked. I had gotten superman stuff in the 90's but lost interest after a couple of issues. Hal is definatley my favorite of all time. Kyle comes in as a close 2nd. Then theres Guy and John and Alan.
