Mostly, I'm bothered that they tried so hard to do the ol' "everybody thinks he's a terrorist but he's not" thing. I really am not in the mood for that. Given what the authorities know about him, I'd be waterboarding his ass all night long too. I really didn't care for the tone taken making the agents and soldiers look in a bad light.

And the bit about the agent who had a child killed on 9/11? How frigging blatant is THAT? Trying WAY too hard there. I felt like Johns was trying as hard as he could to hit me over the head with his soapbox and I am just not feeling it. Liberal you may be Mr Johns, but Denny O'Neil you AINT.

Why is Waller thin and hot? Lame.

Pretty art, but it couldn't save this issue.

There are too many human GLs now, and not enough room to do anything with them. This guy doesn't need to even exist; he's just one more thing the writer is doing to put his stamp on the book.

You could kill him next issue and I wouldn't even blink. Time to bring back Hal Fucking Jordan and start telling Green Lantern stories. This was litterally a waste of a month.
As i read this i had to say to myself that i agree with most if not all the stuff you said there. Hal Fucking Jordan. Thank you.

Wait, how can it JUST that I'm getting old, AND all that other stuff? I'm confused.

Or maybe that's just my repressed hatred of you speaking.

Nothing special this issue, was an ok read. The cliffhanger was somewhat the most interesting part of this issue

That had me scratching my head in the latest issue of Justice League.

Like he had no other choice, 'cuz predjudiced people just were SO awful to him that stealing cars was his only option.

Like I said before, I can sympathize with somebody in that position, under normal circumstances, without feeling that it excuses the crime, but when I'm then asked to believe that that person is a good candidate for being a HERO, chosen for his strong WILLPOWER, that stretches my credulity too much. I have a very hard time seeing somebody who chooses to turn to a life of crime under difficult circumstances as legitimate GL material.

Well, keep in mind that the ring possibly chose him in error, and it does have Sinestro's stamp on it.

They cite the poor economy and the factory he worked in closing as a reason he turned to crime, not racism.

I think the error had more to do with Hal; and Sin disagreeing over how their successor should be like. Sinestro wanted someone like himself and Hal wanted someone like he was. Also, remember that GL rings aren't recruiting more people. In the pages of GLC we see it fly off the finger of a brand new recruit.

The error was due to the ring malfunctioning due to Black Hand's attack, remember?

I don't know why that would cause the error, but it may very well have. Also, the Indigo Tribe tampered with Hal's ring - another reason there may be an error since Hal's ring reintegrated with Sinestro's.

Edit: For all we know, Hal's outwilled the ring to pick out a successor as he did to kill Krona and that caused the error upon his ring's reintegration with Sinestro's.

Either way, it still leaves me having to believe that somebody who turns to crime as an answer to a bad situation is GL material. Error or not, you just KNOW that he's sticking around and we will be asked to see him as GL material.

We've had a few "rough fit" characters in the GLC. Jack T Chance springs to mind. They have to have the ability to overcome great fear, not to be totally heroic from the get-go.

I guess I don't have as much of a problem with it as you do. I see this as a pretty obvious "hero's journey" sort of story where he finds better ways of dealing with what he's done and making up for his past mistakes. With a heavy handed dost of dated political critisisms (this is more of a Bush-era story, IMHO).

Jack T. Chance isn't one of my favorites, and was very clearly a case of the best option on a planet of even worse options.

Totally heroic isn't a requirement, no, but not actively a criminal would be nice. Guess that's why they used to have the "honest" requirement. Got to have SOME way of ensuring that the ring doesn't go to a fearless supervillain, right? (Not that Simon Baz is a supervillain, of course, but the principle is the same.) To my mind, a GOOD candidate should be somebody that TRIES to do the right thing, and if they fail, doesn't exhibit low willpower by giving up and doing the wrong thing instead.
