Issue #28 of GREEN LANTERN should be the final nail in Billy Tan's coffin. I can't take this guy's art anymore. He's sloppy, off-model, inconsistent and just plain bad as a comic book artist. In the nearly 30-odd years that I've been a fan of Hal Jordan, I cannot recall a regular artist who has drawn him more poorly.

GREEN LANTERN should be the flagship of the GL books, yet it has the weakest art of all four. I can't tell you how depressed I get seeing my favourite character being depicted as a scribble of a non-descript, belly-shirt wearing, scrawny douche-nozzle.

The GL universe has been on the decline since the Sinestro Corps War. Sure, some of the stories in the last few years have sucked but at least we had good art thanks to Reis and Mahnke. I'll hang in there as I'm a devoted Hal fan, but if I have to stare at Tan's art for much longer my eyeballs may have to form a close relationship with the end of a pencil.

Tan's are has grown on me a little but I agree. Out of all the current Green Lantern titles, the main GL book definitely has the worst art. With Venditti's mediocre storytelling, we at least deserve better artwork! If I could pick a replacement, I would want Bruno Redondo. He's the guy that is currently on art duties for the Injustice: Year Two comic with Jheremy Raapack. I think Raapack is technically the main artist on that book so Redondo should just come over to GL. I really like his art, especially the way he draws Hal.

Just get rid of the weird, angular-looking faces in GL since Brightest Day/War of the GLs. Like Hal Jordan in CeltiC5-27's signature picture above.

Billy Tan's artwork is horrible. In GL#28, in side-by-side panels drawing Hal facing the side, then facing front....it looks like two different people!! One panel has him looking all skinny, the next normal, it's very frustrating! ...and here I thought Phillip Tan was the worst Tan in comics...

Tan is definitely inconsistent and often disappointed (as other threads here have pointed out), but I'm still glad I don't have to deal with Mahnke's man-women, blank faces, and Bruce Campbell chins.

I'd love to have Reis back.

The way he draws Hal's mask just irritates the crap out of me. EVERY panel it looks like that. Why hasn't anybody corrected him on it? It looks terrible. The mask goes WAY too high above his eyebrows.

I'm torn on Mahnke. His Sinestro is one of the best renditions of the character I've ever seen, but his Hal makes me want to puke up bile. He's hit or miss for sure, I think his non-humanoid characters are well done too.

Actually, though I often bad mouth Mahnke around here, I think he's good at aliens and detailed machinery. I just dislike his humans immensely and since that's a big part of anything he draws the bad much outweighs the good to me.

Completely disagree on Mahnke. His composition, layouts and tight detail far surpass most of what passes for comic book art these days. Granted, he's one of the more stylised artists but his drawings have gritty, heavy, deliberate lines and he draws a HEROIC looking Hal. I have one of his Hal pics as my desktop image and never get tired of it.
