ETHAN-just got flash rebirth and i have to say i stared at the first pg for about 10 min.
pg 1 panels 1-2 were utterly ridiculous man!!! when i saw the meticulous detail put into the cityscape in panel 1 (along with the added rain) i flipped . nice use of the "fisheye" perspective in panel 2-i knew then this was gonna be awesome and was not disappointed! As i said in an earlier post, i'm not the biggest Flash fan, but you can consider this mini sold!!!! great job as usual--thanks for entertaining my eyes once again!!
now a question--how do you fit all the intricate details in those tight spaces (like the cityscape in pg 1)? do you use a magnifier or do you have some sort of mutant telescopic vision?
I draw on 14 by 17 inch boards, obviously, and use very fine pens. I love to draw very fine lines and create deep focus drawings. It's not to everyone's taste, but it makes me happy.

Better than both the Salami and the Bologna combined
Wow, the Aquaman fans are going to get what they have been dreaming of for decades now. A fight with Aquaman beating down Green Lantern and possibly Superman.
And on to my question,
Do you base a lot of the characters you draw on real people? Actors, models and such? Or do you try your best to keep the original designs that previous artists used?
1. Will we be seeing Bart Allen do anything that is absolutely awesome sometime during Rebirth?
2. Will Bart's bitterness towards Barry be further adressed?
3. Did you have fun drawing Savitar during his brief appearance because I love Savitar and he looked awesome.
Overall loved the art on the issue, Ethan and I loved some of the little things like seeing the Turtle and Golden Glider as statues in the museum. And that Brave and the Bold shot was very nice!
1. We souldn't have Bart Allen in REBIRTH if we weren't prepared to do something totally awesome to...I mean with him.
2. Of course...
3. Loved Savitar. I saw him as a big Middle Eastern wrestler type. Too bad he's dust now.
Blackest Night #0 seems to suggest that Black Hand hand-picks (no pun intended) each new member of the Black Lanterns, and subsequently that the rise of the Black Lanterns won't just be a cloud-sized mass of Black Rings descending on Earth's graves like the teaser at the end of GL #25 seemed to suggest.
I'm curious to know with you not being a monthly artist, do you have more creative control on what projects you do, or is that totally up to DC once you sign exclusively?
Can you imagine if it was totally up to DC? It'd be indentured servitude! (With health benefits.) No, DC offers up a list of projects, I may have a few ideas, together we agree on something. There's a lot of freedom.
What is the one thing in Comics you want to change and the one thing you want to draw.
I'd like to eliminate cover images in PREVIEWS 3 months ahead of time! It's really bad, because we have to take all that into consideration so as not to spoil stories. So a lot of comics have played it safe and done consistent, non-story based covers. But I don't think those sell comics as well as covers that tease what the story inside might be about. It also encourages a lot of impatience in fans, who already feel like they've read a book by the time it ships, and are looking way into the future, 3 issues from now.
The one thing I'd like to draw is....Just one thing? Uh...If I got to draw one last thing before I immediately dropped dead, I suppose it'd be Batman and the Joker. Boring, eh?
I think the only question I have left in me at least till I read Blackest Night is this.
Black Lantern Connor Kent aka Superboy, Will you simply replace the S on his shirt with the BL V shield like you did with E2 Superman or a entire new outfit?
Darth_Andrea
He'd wear a mixture of his costume, which isn't anything come to think of it....hm. He'd probably look a lot like Earth 2 Superman.
Hey Ethan, just wanted to say I enjoyed the heck out of your latest appearance on the Wordballoon podcast. You and Siuntres have a great chemistry, even when you're not talking about comics and talking about movies I've never seen, it's great to listen to.
All that is leading up to, have you ever considered doing your own podcast? (I know, like you're not busy enough as it is :P ) It'd be cool to hear you pair up with someone and just talk about whatever comes to mind, comics or not. Sort of an audio version of your Newsarama column, I suppose. Just think about it, alright?
Some of the covers are materializing for Blackest Night #1 and the first two Blackest Night issues of Green Lantern and first of Green Lantern Corps... are your covers to be alternates?
My covers are spoilery 1 in 10 variants. Just for Blackest Night though. I think my eyes were bigger than my head...I can't possibly do variants for everything with my current workload.
Ethan, I'm sure you don't know this. But could you find out if Iris' book is still in continuity? I don't see any real reason why it wouldn't be, but I'm extremely curious.
W., I'm not sure I understand this question. Iris's book?
Nice. Glad to hear you finally get to do Plastic Man.
Are you going to start that directly after Rebirth/BN: The Flash? Are you writing that as well as drawing? Oh, and is this a Year One thing or are we picking up with him in current continuity?
It'd be a refresher course on a slightly updated origin story and then zoom, off to the races.
