Ofcourse. It just shows how most love thee comics they read, and the characters.
Sure, some take it too far, but most are reasonably worried.

Everything could end up fine for me as I read little DC at the moment, but I love GL, and I just don't know how much of what I love will survive the revamp.

And, I am worried that now i will never get my back issues sold!

Oh, and you keep comparing this with CoIE back in 1985. But there is a big difference in WHY that book came to be.

It was created because DC had many same characters walking around with many different origins. That is, despite the Multiverse being back (still don't understand why they did that DC hasn't really done anything with it) not the case now.

This is not a revamp because things are complicated, it's a revamp to 'younger' the DCU.

Not saying it's a bad thing, but I can imagine people are scared because of what might happen to their fave book/character.

With Geoff involved, I have hope GL will survive mostly intact...if it's enough, i don't know.

I am worried about Secret Six and Birds of Prey though.

I just wonder why did DC put so many events out the last year? If they were planning this, they should have worked towards it better IMO. Brightest day was weak as it is, but this will probably make it moot, and a real waste of paper.

DC may market this as a great jumping on point, but for many readers, i think it will be the perfect jumping off point.

        • The Morning After The Night Before

Morning, morning, morning, okay, where were we?

Oh that’s right, the relaunch of the DC Universe. Mark Seifert ably held the site together, last night, as Bleeding Cool received its greatest traffic to date, two years to the day after it began.

One theme over the last year at Bleeding Cool has been what DC actions smack of old DC and new DC. I think this is very much a new DC action, not just the rejuvenation of characters and a linewide #1 relaunch, but the complete day-and-day digital sales decision across the DCU. This is a radical major step for such a company and leaves Marvel on the back foot rather. The “retailer incentives” are going to have to be prety big to dissuade their fears and, for once, Marvel may be seen as the retailers’ friend. Bob Wayne, ex-comics retailer and now SVP of Sales has his work cut out for him on this one.

So what else did I hear overnight, aside from everything I’d reported yesterday? A few things. Probably worthy of their own pieces. Okay, I’ll set them up for later today…

But as to that story about the Lois Lane/Clark Kent marriage disappearing, I received more confirmation overnight that this the way things are going, including Superman getting down and jiggy with Wonder Woman. This is your new DC Universe folks!

And I can’t believe I forgot the James Robinson/Philip Tan Hawkman #1 after announcing it last year. Bloody hell, thank you CBR. They seem to be the only other site trying to work outside of DC’s PR schedule on this.

They also report in a manner that reminded me of Lying In The Gutters past, a Grant Morrison Superman book,a new Simone-less Birds Of Prey #1, Teen Titans #1 by Fabian Nicieza, a Guggenheim-less Justice Society Of America #1, Geoff Johns still on Green Lantern #1, and naturally Aquaman #1 by Johns and Ivan Reis.

And yes CBR, Action Comics and Detective Comics are both restarting from #1. That doesn’t prohibit century anniversary titles in the future though.

Looks like John Rozum is writing one of the new books – “I am currently putting together my first issue of a non-supernatural superhero series for DC Comics”

Gail Simone’s culinary tweets have come in for analysis; “The news is true. I WILL be making two sandwiches starting later today. Fantastic, creative sandwiches! Is that what we’re talking about?.. I am psyched about working with the ingredients in my new sandwiches. A delightful mix of new and old meats and cheeses. Mmm. Old meats!… I don’t know what the other chefs are making, but my understanding is that some favorites will still be on the menu…. Holy crap, that Hawkman sandwich by Phillip Tan looks DELICIOUS! Wow!….It’s time for an adventure. Yes, we are walking the high wire. But I suspect the view will be amazing. Come walk with us.”

Adventure Comics then? And possibly Nightwing? Or JSA?

There are lots more questions to ask, and I’ll be doing so. But the biggest one is… where exactly is Green Lantern’s energy gatling gun coming from here? Looks like rejuventated Hal Jordan doesn’t need any little green pills. Just collars! Raised collars for everyone! Even if, like Wonder Woman, you don’t even have a jacket!

          • raised collars?

More like raised eyebrows at the complete lack of creativity apparently in control of DC right now
Imagination, how can something so destructive create something so beautiful

Well maybe initially, but if the stories are good they'll come back. The same thing kinda happened with Spider-Man, OMD was pretty much deemed unecessary/a horrible story, but the quality of writing that came out it can't be disputed. Sales eventually went back up comparable to where they were pre-OMD (comparable because sales across the entire industry have been dropping, but I believe its ranking is about the same).

The same thing will happen with DC, if the stories are good people will come back.

I think the original announcement said it concerned the "Superman and the DC Universe" so I doubt it's just about the movie, could be though.

                        HA!

In just my 16 years of reading comic books, there has never been solid continuity. From what I've read from before my time, it was even more of a mess.

The DCU history and continuity has been such a mess and so confusing for so long, this kind of needed to happen. If it fixes the mess, I'm all for it. there's only 1 way this universe and these characters will be able to live on forever. That will only happen if new young creative minds like Geoff and Jim, are introduced every decade or so to give readers a fresh start.

In 20 years all the readers/fans will be complaining about new changes again, wanting things to go back to the way they are now. It's just a vicious cycle. It's not like the same people that were reading these titles back in the 40's and 50's are the same people reading today. New readers are coming into this clusterfuck everyday, and while they enjoy the stories, I think they are overwhelmed by the history. I know I would be. Hell, I've been readig for close to 2 decades, and I still don't know what the fuck is going on with some characters.

I don't love everything behind the changes, but I'm going to remain mostly optimistic about this and see how it all pans out.

                        • DC Relaunch: Batgirl #1 and Nightwing #1

Well, it looks like there will be a new Batgirl #1 amongst the 52 relaunched books in September.

What will be different this time is that the book will star Barbara Gordon as Batgirl.

Currently taking the role of Oracle, Barbara Gordon lost the use of her legs in Killing Joke, but became the Birds Of Prey’s eye in the sky, and was handled defly in that title. There had been some possibility that control over her lower body may be slowly returning.

But who needs to go through several years of physical therapy, when you can get a relaunch! With a rejuvenated Barbara Gordon back in the Batgirl identity with a flick of a switch!

Oh and yes, there’s also a Nightwing #1. That’s all I know about that one.

If that is what happens, then this move will be a failure. They obviously don't want things to stabilize back where they were, they want them to be HIGHER. I'm not convinced this will do that, but we'll just have to wait and see.

                            • I know that the word reboot is being frowned on by Didio but if everything is going back to square one with cherrypicks of the past few decades to put everything into a new continuity I'm not sure what you'd call it then. Reimagining? Recreating? Rehistoric...ing? Those are all buzz words for the same thing. Seeing Barbara as Batgirl again walking around fighting crime is still wiping out a chunk of history (if that is what she does) and it removes the two Batgirls after her...that is still kind of a reboot.

I'm interested to see how they weave Nightwing into the Batman mythos, unless #1 isn't really origin but just when the audience heads into the story but I'm also interested in how they treat John, Guy and Kyle since I have a feeling they'll be inserted into this new DCU just not by the traditional standards...
