His stuff has only been out for one month. Instead of comparing the sales from this month to last, I want to see the number of people who dropped after giving him a chance.

I wouldn't take Rob's word though. OMAC has been in more titles than Wonder Woman and that's since his cancellation. His "revelations" could just be basic "look at my shit" promo.

This September, the creator of Jem will write DC Comics’ most 1980s fantasy heroine

This September, DC Comics will release its "Third Wave" of newly relaunched comic books. One of those series will be Sword of Sorcery, a new title that brings back the publisher's old-school fantasy characters like Beowulf and Amethyst, The Princess of Gemworld.

And penning the adventures of Amethyst is none other than animation veteran Christy Marx, who created the supercomputer-powered cartoon rockers Jem and the Holograms. io9 spoke exclusively with Marx and series illustrator Aaron Lopresti about the return of DC's crystalline warrior. Here's a sneak peek at what they have planned.

You can find our interview with Marx and Lopresti below, and here's the synopsis of this new series:

DC Marks The New 52's Anniversary with ZERO MONTH

"[Zero Month] is not just about origins," co-publisher Jim Lee told Newsarama. "It's really about reveals, and it's really about sparking continued interest in new storylines. So it gave a lot of freedom to the creative teams to either do origin stories that they hadn't done before, or plant seeds for future storylines."

DC Universe Presents #0 will feature four 10-page stories that focus on the untold history of Hawk and Dove, O.M.A.C., Mr. Terrific and Mother Machine, which were all central characters in comics that were canceled in May.

Among the #0 issues released in September will be four new series that will replace four canceled series. (One of the series that is ending after its August issue is Justice League International, but the other three have not been announced.)

The four new series are Talon, written by James Tynion IV and co-plotted by Scott Snyder with art by Guillem March; The Phantom Stranger by co-publisher Dan DiDio with art by Brent Anderson; Team Seven by writer Justin Jordan with art by Jesus Merino; and Sword of Sorcery by writer Christy Marx and artist Aaron Lopresti (with back-ups by Tony Bedard and Jesus Saiz).

In October, the four new series will continue with issue #1, while the original New 52 series will return to their previous numbering from August. October will also presumably see DC kick off some of the events that Newsarama outlined last month, including the Green Lantern "Third Army" event.

That will start the road toward DC's upcoming event Trinity War, which Lee said will start a "year and a half" after the launch of The New 52 — meaning it should start soon after the beginning of 2013.

Lee also indicated that Trinity War will impact the entire DCU, and September's Zero Month is part of the publisher "getting all the ducks in a row" before that "major" event begins.

Newsarama talked to DiDio and Lee about the Zero Month event and why DC is taking this step upon the one-year anniversary of its line-wide relaunch.
DiDio Reveals New 52 Zero-Issues in Sept. Plus Four New Series

No, the publisher won't dive into another fully fledged relaunch of its DC Universe line after last year's successful New 52, but they will be emulating that launch's success with a month full of stand-alone #0 issues meant to entice readers both old and new to explore what's happening across the line by telling origin tales and revealing secrets about the pasts of heroes from the Justice League to the Teen Titans and beyond.

"We've got to do things to get folks excited again," DC Co-Publisher Dan DiDio told CBR News. "That's our job. DC is one of the leaders in the industry, and we've got to lead by example. This is the best way to do that -- by putting out books that get people excited."

Alongside the #0 issues for existing titles, the publisher is also launching four new series that month. "Talon," a spinoff from the current "Night of the Owls" crossover in the Batman world, featuring a story by Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV, written by Tynion and drawn by Guillem March, stars Calvin Rose, the only Talon to ever escape the Court of Owls. "Sword of Sorcery" is a new epic fantasy series anchored by an "Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld" serial by writer Christy Marx and artist Aaron Lopresti with a "Beowulf" back-up story written by Tony Bedard with art by Jesus Saiz. DiDio himself will write a new "Phantom Stranger" series for artist Brent Anderson spinning out of DC’s recent Free Comic Book Day special. And finally, "Team Seven" continues the merging of DC and WildStorm as writer Justin Jordan and artist Jesus Merino tell a tale of the earlier days of the DCU through a team that includes Dinah Lance, Amanda Waller, Steve Trevor, John Lynch, Alex Fairchild, Cole Cash and Slade Wilson.

For more on these series and the entire "Zero Month" initiative, CBR News spoke with DiDio about the successes and surprises of the New 52, what DC must do to keep the books from getting stale, and how discussions around everything from event comics to diversity played into the launch of the four new series.

    INTRODUCING DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 "0" MONTH

Timed to the one year anniversary of the launch of the historic DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 initiative, DC Comics will introduce 0 month.

In September 2012, DC Comics will release 0 issues—and we don’t mean we aren’t publishing any titles—but what we will be doing is numbering every DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 title #0.

#0s will be stand-alone stories. “Some issues will tell the origins of a character or a team, or in some case where an origin has already been told, they will fill in the blanks in terms of questions readers may have about the New 52 DC Universe,” said Bob Harras, DC Entertainment Editor-in-Chief. “Each of these issues promises to reveal something surprising.”

And debuting at #0 are four new comic book series:

TALON - Writer Scott Snyder with co-writer James Tynion IV. Artist: Guillem March.

Meet Calvin Rose, the only Talon to ever escape the grasp of the Court of Owls. This former assassin of the Court is trying to live a normal life ... but that’s impossible when he’s being hunted by his former masters!

SWORD OF SORCERY – Writer: Christy Marx. Artist: Aaron Lopresti.
Featuring the return of Amethyst, Amy Winston leads a strange life on the road with her mother and resents it. She’s about to learn it’s all been necessary when she discovers she’s the lost princess of Gemworld—and she’s being hunted by her murderous aunt. With a back-up story written by Tony Bedard with art by Jesus Saiz, set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, the monstrous warrior Beowulf is charged with finding and defeating the evil Grendel.

THE PHANTOM STRANGER - Writer: Dan DiDio. Artist: Brent Anderson.
Spinning out of his recent appearances in JUSTICE LEAGUE and DC’s Free Comic Book Day story, learn more about the true origin of The Phantom Stranger and his connection to the mysterious Pandora.

TEAM SEVEN - Writer: Justin Jordan. Artist: Jesus Merino.
Set in the early days of DC COMICS-THE NEW 52, threads of the entire DC Universe collide. As Superman emerges, so does the world’s counter measures against him and his kind. Team 7 is comprised of Dinah Lance, Amanda Waller, Steve Trevor, John Lynch, Alex Fairchild, Cole Cash and Slade Wilson — and their story will change everything you know about DC COMICS-THE NEW 52.

They will go to trade paperback at some point, right? I haven't read any of the new WW, but have heard enough that I'd like to. I don't however, particularly want to pay just as much for the collection as I would've to get the original issues.
