This issue was underwhelming to say the least. I doubt this is the way that Bendis would have chosen to end a series he's spent nearly 9 years writing and building. But I guess he has to do what the guy who's singlehandedly destroyed and sucked all the fun out of the Ultimate Universe tells him to. Yes, Loeb, I'm looking your way. Thanks for nothing pal.
Of course, we know that a character never dies off-panel, so there was no "shock" factor to this issue at all. They find Spidey's mask in a puddle. Big deal. If we didn't see him die, he ain't dead. End of story. He'll be back. Maybe it will be reconciled in the Requiem issue. But for now, a lame ending to an incredible series.

I actually just finished reading issues 132 and 133 last night. And I agree, the rest of the series was really good, but this ending sucked. To have Spidey (supposedly) go out like that....I was disappointed. For what shall it profit a man if he should gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

Im hoping with that whole explosion at Strange's place he maybe got transported to another dimension or somethingI LOVE conspiracy theorists. They are like human versions of the cymbal clapping, dancing monkeys. No one takes them all that seriously and they get bored with them after about 10 minutes.

that was my guess as well. At least that seems more likely, or perhaps he was clinging on to Hulk's back using him as a shield. But I'm still guessing for he got transported.
And I didn't get the reference that he already knew Nightmare. When did that happen? Did I read over that in the series? For what shall it profit a man if he should gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

All I know is what I hear, and what I've heard is that the Ultimate line is being changed by Mark Millar, Jeph Loeb, Brian Michael Bendis, and Joe Quesada.
Apparently we all love to kick the man that everyone else is kicking, but it may not be necessary.
Sorry, not a jab at you really. It's just the fact that EVERYBODY bashes Loeb, and not all of it is appropriate.

I mean, c'mon, Mark Millar and Carlos Pacheco on the Ultimates. Pretty sweet.

Yes it does, but Loeb has done so much damage to the universe that brought me into comics

Really, the Ultimate U that I would like to see is something like Morrison's Marvel Boy. Completely new, but an obvious version of Spider-Man.
Since I'll never get that, I'm willing to see what they'll do to make the Ultimate U different from 616.
As far as Ultimatum goes, I'm enjoying the ride. Yes, part of me screams in agony over the death, but if it had to happen, this is an interesting execution.
