As it was, the first 1/3rd of the film was fairly decent and I was starting to enjoy it up until the "one year" later part... then it went to complete and utter shit

It was like Fearless and gamerajon mind swap with the review of Fant4stic. I was seriously expecting gamerajon to blast the hell out of this film.
I raise my hand as one of the handful of people that genuinely enjoyed the film.
I think it was amazing that Josh Trank made a YouTube clip a few years ago and that ignited his career and which led him to direct F4 and was actually announced to be directing a Star Wars film. His career ended as quickly as it started.
