  • Mariko Tamaki?!?!

Oh MY LORD! Just when it sounds like DC was reading my mind and decided to give me what I WANTED for once, they find a way to give me the middle finger!

I heard the news today that in 2023 DC would launch TWO Green Lantern titles, Green Lantern: Hal Jordan and Green Lantern: John Stewart. My first reaction was, "holy crap! This is all I wanted! My favorite guy and my 2nd favorite and they dont have to fight for panel space!"

...Then I saw the creators assigned...

I mean really, who does DC think they are making happy putting Mariko Tamaki on a Hal Jordan title?!?! She's awful and will trash Hal while alienating more Green Lantern fans, which is the LAST thing DC needs.

    Thoughts?

"Mariko Tamaki is a Toronto writer, playwright, activist and performer. She has performed across Canada and the United States with fat activists Pretty Porky and Pissed Off and the theatre troupe TOA"

Some solid credits for Green Lantern right there!

"Being Super" was one of the best Supergirl stories in recent memory. She also did a solid job on her run with Detective Comics, so Hal's in good hands. No need to worry.

You are always the one most positive about the current product, which is cool that you at least look forward to so much.

Two GL books was all that I was wanting. OK, well perhaps not all, because I still want an anthology/quarterly type of book that focuses on rotating Lanterns. However, I get to start out 2023 with two Green Lanterns #1s, likely with multiple variant covers. That's exciting.

There is no way anyone in their right mind could expect anything close to worthwhile to come out of a big money studio in present year, what with the bizarro world control system running things. That's why I'm not disappointed - I already know the score.

One day maybe good creators will be allowed back at the reigns, but I'll still be collecting for history's sake, i.e. "look how Green Lantern comics were affected by this era"

And they still pop out a neat alien now and then

She wrote that self insert "I'm not Starfire" novel. Don't worry Mariko. Nobody will confuse you for Starfire.

DC's website lists the Stewart title as releasing Tuesday, but other sites don't list it. Anyone know if it's this week or not?

For what it's worth, I liked "I Am Not Starfire" better than "Unearthed." Tamaki's characterization of Starfire as a concerned, patient parent made the read worthwhile. I liked Steph C's art in Unearthed, but outside Jessica & John's names, nothing about the story resembled Green Lantern at all. I'm not the target audience for either one, and that's fine, but between Being Super and her run on Detective, I'm interested to see how she handles GL. I also have Spider-Man & Venom: Double Trouble on my future reading list as well.

The farther away the title gets from its best era, the less the chance someone will even know about it, let alone recapture it and build on it. Geoff is pretty much the starting point now.

This is just too depressing to put into words.

Yep that was her. They're still trying to make that books seem succesful.

                              Hal jordan weep in despair.

Thankfully I'm still holding onto my "No Guy, No Buy" mindset.
