Riiiight. That's what it is, John Stewart. Of course, sales would be much better if they replaced him as the focus with Kyle or Guy. I mean just look how much better their respective titles are doing in comparison to GLC.

Actually the GLC should do a bit better than those two titles. The Red Lanterns is doing better than it has any right to, and Kyle apparently does have enough fans to carry a comic. I've always thought John should be reinvented, personality-wise.

They did that. What we have currently is the result.

Actually, they did it several times, come to think of it.

I liked John personality-wise in his Mosaic days. I liked him pretty well during Kyle's run as GL, too, even if I lamented the way the character was used.

I wasn't a big fan of not only adding in a military background in the comics, but suddenly making it THE controlling aspect of his character, so it got referenced ALL the time, and you barely, if ever, got the impression he ever HAD been an architect.

The worst "reinvention" of John's personality, though, was for Cosmic Odyssey, when they took a character that was ready to QUIT the Corps not long ago because he honestly felt he didn't have the training to do the job well, and turned him into somebody so arrogantly confident in his abilities that he couldn't CONCEIVE of anything he couldn't handle. We got some good character development down the road from him dealing with his feelings of guilt over the death of Xanshi, but the way he was handled in that actual series was something of a crime.

I don't think John needs yet ANOTHER personality makeover. Half of his problem is inconsistent writing.

And I don't agree at all with the thought that John as a main character is bringing down a title's sales. Fans aren't buying the whole package, not because of one character. And when done right, John is the shit.

I agree. I think the other titles are just slipping because GL sales are slipping. If were were at a high where GL was popular again, the other titles would be more popular too (not as popular as the flagship, but more than now).

New titles basically go down all the time unless their Batman or they survive on gimmick after gimmick.

Superman Unchained may be the second highest selling book, but its readership fell again.

If you ask me it's real telling when Batman continues to the best selling book for three months in a row.

I see sarcasm is lost on people. I was poking fun at Star-Lantern/Desh about his John is the only good lantern crap that he always spews.

All the titles are hurting because of a weak main title. Kurt Busiek really wants to write GL so does Grant Morrison. IF DC was serious about making this franchise line strong again they need to improve the Art and the writing on this franchise or at the very least shrink the line.
