  • The trend continues.. Good to see the GLC actually go up a little though. And I always get a kick out of seeing Guy outsell Kyle, especially given what a poor concept the Red Lanterns is.

Sinestro started out higher than I thought it would, but it took a big hit in #2. I think the next three issues will tell the tale there. I expect it to fail.

    • Dave is right. Short-term, the sales numbers actually reflect speculation by the owners of comics shops. Reality is usually a few months behind the monthly numbers.

        • Still shocked to see Harley selling 93k.

          • HQ is really marketable and the book is a lot of fun. It will fall off eventually.

            • Those are big jumps for GL and the GLC. Sinestro hardly fell off at all, and RL and NG held their ground.

              • Shocked to see Justice League 3000 so low. Keith Giffen just doesn't sell anymore.

                • Looks like that bombshell DC June variant worked since every comic that had one, had a huge boost.

And we're sure to see a lot more themed variant covers because of it.

The popularity of Batman and Spider-man never ceases to amaze me, and I don't mean that in a critical way. It seems to me that I always see multiple titles of those two in the top 20 month after month, year after year. Even when one or both of those characters are going through controversial storylines, their readership never seems to dip very far. Even cultural staples like Superman, Hulk, and the X-men go through peaks and valleys to which Bats and Spidey are immune.

Back on topic, it's good to see GL getting a bump.

I always post the top 20 for that very reason--so you guys can chart the market a little and see what's more popular than our favorite ring slinger.

                        • It's actually kind of sad that people will run out and buy a variant cover and not care what's inside.

Agreed. I suppose if you really like the artist or concept and are going to display it, it may make some sense once in a while, but I personally only get variants for titles I'm reading anyway.

                            • In my opinion, the bombshell covers were a legitimately interesting idea and they were really well done, so I'm glad to see them payoff for DC, and hopefully GL and GLC pick up new readers from people who bought the #32 issues because of the covers.

It's great to see the two books thriving. And I hope DC has future success with the variant covers. I think they've been pretty fun ideas lately. The people who have a problem with them simply don't have to buy them. They're there for the people who like them.
