I had my first inkling that something like that would happen to GL on the day it was announced that Hal and the Corps were coming back. People who has been trolled and ridiculed for years despite being RIGHT were celebrating and rubbing it in on their tormentors, when suddenly some people who had never before posted on the DC boards showed up and started berating and condemning those who were celebrating. I thought, "What the fuck? Who are you? Who told you to suddenly barge in here and take charge? You've never said anything about any of this until today." But that's the way it went.Last edited by Trey Strain; 09-04-2014, 04:02 PM.

That is the way it went. And now there are still red, indigo, and blue t shirts at cons. I don't think GL will get better until the fair weather fans inevitably leave, and DC is forced to shrink the GL franchise down to GL and GLC. Let those be as good as they can be. All this rainbow crap was never built to last anyway.

I think the GL concept could support four or five titles, and that's what I've tried to demonstrate with my sample issues. But those titles are NOT RL, NG, Larfleeze and Sinestro.Last edited by Trey Strain; 09-04-2014, 10:03 PM.

Geoff Johns actually said he HATED the people who said "We won!'" when Hal and the Corps came back. But Geoff, if you had listened to those people instead of to your fanboys, you'd still be writing GL and flying high.Last edited by Trey Strain; 09-04-2014, 10:19 PM.

Peter David was on the hulk for about that long and his run was still great when he left.
Regardless, I agree that a good writer knows when to get off stage. Johns stayed a few years too long. He should have left right before Blackest Night...so that it never happened. Then I'd put his GL run on a pedestal.

A lot of people were perplexed when Johnny Carson retired. He was still sharp and his ratings were still good. He could have done it for another five years. But he said, "You have to know when to get off the stage." Very few people do.

There are many examples of that. Jerry Lewis should have quit the MDA telethons before they kicked him off. Bob Hope should have stopped making television specials when he could no longer stand up and had to stay seated through them. Dick Clark should have stopped appearing at Times Square New Years Eve after his stroke.

If GJ was still writing GL, we'd all complain, but we'd probably still be picking up the title. A good deal of people have dropped the book.
I spoke to my LCS owner over the weekend, and he said that sales for GL have dropped by almost 50% since GJ left the title.
