There are Marvell stories left to be told and people want to see him yet they are bringing back Warlock yet again instead...
Warlock is practically the only character who imo should have stayed dead, since his death meant so much in the context of what for me is perhaps the greatest comic story ever...Final Threat. Starlin just totally nailed that, I just recently reread it after decades (when it first came out, actually). I adore that story.

    • a lot of Marvel's recent total domination is about them acquiring the Star Wars franchise. If the Star Wars books were their own entity it would be the 4th largest comic book line behind, Marvel, DC, and Image. Sort of how back in the day the X-books would have been #3 if it was it's own line apart from Marvel. Marvel's rebooting #1's strategy works for them while DC was/is more committed to continuity.

DOH! I didn't even think of that. Star Wars...yawn.

They're not doing that now. I mean what are the best critically acclaimed DC books now? Batman? Justice League? Those 2 are potential answers but I'll be damned if I can name a third.

And movies generating sales is a myth, that's not the reason that Marvel outperforms DC, they just have better talent.

Though to be honest neither of the Big 2 produce a book better than Saga over at Image.

          • I see your point, but I don't put the current Batman run anywhere near the elite in quality...the bat-bunny doesn't hold a candle to, say, Justice League and Martian Manhunter for DC, Iron Man for Marvel (and even IM today isn't quite what it was back...well, name your 21st century run).

But again, these are all just my opinions.

All respect meant, but is there a better story today in the big 2 than what's going on in Justice League? I have nearly a dozen Marvel subscriptions and double that in DC...I must have missed it.

Amen to that, the only thing that held my attention at Marvel was Secret Wars because it was a prolific writer, Hickman, seemingly tying up all the loose ends from his entire run at Marvel comics (though I wish he would complete his SHIELD book).
Over at DC, Darkseid war is the best thing cooking, Fabok is a revelation, how could someone that good be around and I not know about him until now? It is a great read, but not SCW or Great Darkness Saga great but that is all time stuff there. Which considering the players and the concept,a war between Darkseid and the Anti Monitor with the prime ultimate version of the JLA stuck in the middle is the only thing that could possible rival those tales. Will it reach that level by the end? Only time will tell. Now that Secret Wars is done, JL is the only book (besides GL #50) that I have to make sure to pick up the day it comes out, the rest of my many titles can wait until it is convenient to do so.

I'm with you! I just received my copy of GL #49, apparently I better get to reading it today, especially after reading the above.

                    • Justice League not even in the top....

                      Martian Manhunter nowhere...

I guess I'm a mutant. I'm now completely alienated from the general comics world. I can't think of a better comic from the big 2 than JL today...there isn't.

Those seem like cancellation numbers. I'm...astonished.

                      • So, in other worlds, two titles that for the most part (besides the GL/C and Iron Man) keep me buying new comics are at risk of becoming cancelled. Stunned.

                        • Sorry to mislead. I really shouldn't have even posted that. JL 47 sold in December. Those are reprint sales! JL hasn't dipped that much! Compare to December sales on the previous page.

Marvel is getting a HUGE temporary boost with their new relaunch, but their relaunch is falling off fast -- a bigger faster fall than New 52 did.

So, DC is doing Rebirth to regain or temporarily boost their way back into market share.

Unless BOTH companies focus on quality versus new issue #1's every other year, the Big Two are in big trouble. Relaunch or no, 20K per month in the direct market is the standard danger zone for cancellation the last 5-10 years.

Agree fully. Both companies need longterm, less gimmicky solutions to their sales woes. Things are worse for DC now than they were before the nU 52 relaunch.

Honestly you really seem kind of hung up on the new batsuit, the current run on Batman is the same run it's been on since the New 52 started, Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo selling 100k+ with each issue, the current arc just happens to have Gordon as Batman.

And Martian Manhunter? That's...a pretty niche book. #123 overall on the sales charts and well within in cancellation territory.

Eh, JL has certainly been good but it really hasn't been anywhere close to spectacular. The Multiversity was better and so was Hickman's New Avengers/The Avengers/Secret Wars run that just wrapped up.

Yea, this is why Rebirth (whatever it is) is happening. After Batman the next best selling DC book is Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...that's just sad.

From a GL perspective The Omega Men will wrap up with issue #12 and won't be back when the relaunch happens, I really doubt Sinestro survives and GLC is just a mini so it'll wrap up as well.

We'll probably end with 1 or 2 GL books, hopefully with a decent writer and a decent artist. I honestly don't think it would take much to elevate the GL franchise back towards the top of the DCU, they just need average talent in both categories.

That's because there wasn't a new JL issue in January, if there had been one it probably would've been #11 overall given the sales tend.

GL will almost assuredly get a new book/be relaunched in June, GLC is a mini so it probably won't be cancelled before it ends and Iron Man isn't anywhere close to being cancelled, it's #28 overall.
