  • I figured a six issue story is a six issue story. Doesn't matter how many pages. As the sole writer I'd imagine you get paid for the whole thing and in the artists' case an issue by issue basis. Some pages barely contain any dialog, you gonna pay that writer the same thing the artist is getting for that one page?

A writer likely gets paid for the whole story, the artist by the page or by the issue. If editorial is telling the writer everything to write and not really letting them do their job, then they're probably making less money and getting twice as aggravated while looking into going over to Image...

    • True, but DC has pulled within striking distance of Marvel for the first time in a half century. Take away Star Wars and DC would be in the lead.

      • Pretty sure DC was within 1-2% of Marvel at the beginning of the New52 cause every #1 issue [even for the shittier books] sold out of their first printings.

This isn't the first time it's happened. I think around Infinite Crisis DC was slaying as well as the Death of Batman era later around Final Crisis.

        • These articles give the long-term picture. The first shows the sales from 1950-1987.

The second numbers are from 1991 to 2015. Marvel's bankruptcy gave DC a chance in the late 90s that it couldn't capitalize on, and the status quo soon reasserted itself.

Careful Dave. They might make him Warrior again [hopefully with a modified look and powerset that isn't easily abused] at some point. They'll only be able to justify both Real World and In-Universe for having so many Earth GLs for so long. Guy and Kyle are the expendable ones in this current "Diversity" push.

            • I'm sorry John. I know Warrior Guy was your bag and I don't want to sound mean. But there is no way they are going back to that in the comics.

I understand Dave. No worries. Though I would prefer him being Warrior over him playing musical power rings again.

They definitely diluted the process and made the bearers less unique. Remember when Hal getting the ring was such a huge deal because he was the first [and only one at the time] Human to become a GL. Now if a character shows an adequate amount of an emotion a ring from the Corps. will fly to them.

I wonder if Boon was letting his feeling known about the Emotional Spectrum when he made it that you can turn Hal's costume Brown.

                    • Well they brought the emotional rings back after a welcome break and sales are still falling, so I am hoping DC will get the hint that they aren't the answer to reviving GL's falling sales. They need to put the breaks on what they have going on now and go for a change to the status quo, I'd say within a year.

All they've use of my ideas are bimonthly publishing and bringing the Golden Age JSA to the present while young. But I bet that a Flash team title and some others are on the way. Excuse me, I mean of Jim and Dan's ideas. As in:

They definitely got greedy after Sinestro Corps. War. They saw money money through merchandising and damn the consequences story wise. Since we're heading for another War of Lights hopefully they'll finally get it out of their system. Hopefully those scenes of Natu and Arkillo and the other Yellows abandoning the Yellow to become Green Lanterns [again for Natu] comes to pass sooner rather than later.

Instead of greedy, I'd say overconfident. That's also the reason they poured all that money into the Green Lantern movie.

Geoff's reinvention of the property just wasn't what they thought it was. It was a flash in the pan.

                              • Looking back, GL rose and fell pretty damn fast didn't it? From 2005 to 2011 was a HELL of a time to be a fan. I wish we could recapture that magic.
