Because he's not Hal. That is 100% of the fanboy rage. I've seen it since day one.

No it's not because he isn't Hal. No fanboy rage here dude so get out of here with that nonsense. I was born in '85, Kyle has been GL for most of my life. I didn't know who Hal Jordan was until GL #100 (I think where Hal meets Kyle in a 6 part story). Hal isn't even my favorite GL.

What I hate about Kyle is that there has be something done to make him "special" (him being the only GL for awhile, him being Ion, or him becoming a WL now) to be relevant. Kyle isn't the only character from that time that I hate. I hate Tim Drake just as much, but not more.

I think that all KYLE needs to set him apart is his old cast of secondary characters and his old rogues gallery. coincidentally Geoff Johns killed all of his rogues off. IMO Kyle has his own place in the GL universe. But I do agree that what they are doing right now with Kyle is part of why this place is so dead lately. although it seems as if it is picking up a bit.

I think it stems from the attitude of the 90's comic era. Everything old SUX this is way better because it is EXTREME! In your face style was a trend, and now that it is said and done those just here for shock characters have lost thier main gimmick. That said I think Kyle could be reworked to fit into today's comics. There is a good character there for the write writter to make shine.

Just don't get caught up in the 1-up race. Look Hal Jordan is Green Lantern, and as much as we like other characters like Steel, there is only one Superman. I like Kyle. He needs some work, but he is worth keeping around.

Kyle never fit the extreme/shock character mold. Not one bit. He was an everyman Marvel character, transplanted into the DC Universe. That's why he worked so well.

Yes he did. Boom1 Yo daddies Green Lantern is now a supper villian! I am onna change the Costume! I am onna Change the Symbol! I am puch the established GL inna dick every chance I get! I am onna blow up Oa. and the rest rest of the Galaxy can go screw it's self. So what their sector dose not have a Green Lantern to protect them! I am Kyle Rayner bitch! I am a reackless kid because that is what is kool!

Ring any bellz? I mean alot of it was between the lines stuff, but the message was pretty clear. There can be only one and I am it! I remember pictures of Kyle saying "I am Green Lantern. Deal with it"! I came in on Kyle's run. His was the first comic I had pulled for me at a comic shop. I was there dude.

Is it fair for people to hold that grudge, sure. But why bother/ What is the end game? DC killing Kyle? If you truely want that then you are no better then the Extremist of the 90's..

                    • Kyle never said any of those things. "Between the lines" in this case seems to mean your distaste for the character, but that doesn't mean it happened in the comics.

The Kyle hate always seemed ridiculous to me in general, and it's proven to be ridiculous by the fact that fanboys still bitch about it over twenty years later.

DC won't kill Kyle for two reasons. 1) He makes money. 2) Comic characters don't stay dead. Both times Kyle's "died" in recent years, he's come back to life within seconds.

                      • Honestly IMO hate whichever character you want to hate. It's the people with the "I hate x character or y book so they should be killed or cancelled and fuck anyone else that likes the character" mentality that pisses me right the fuck off. If you don't like the character or book that's great then just don't buy the fucking book or any books the character appears in. It's not bloddy rocket science. I can't stand Superman but do I want him dead? NO! I just avoid his books at all costs. It's really not that hard.

                        It's 2014 people this Hal/Kyle business is sooooooooooo 90's.

(EDIT: Not sure if the continuation of this convo in here constitutes as derailing the thread but it does feel like it a bit.)

I LOVE conspiracy theorists. They are like human versions of the cymbal clapping, dancing monkeys. No one takes them all that seriously and they get bored with them after about 10 minutes.

I agree that it is a 90's attitude. But during that time, I think the attitude was more understandable (even if I didn't personally share it) given that DC seemed determined to kill, depower, or make evil every possible alternative GL around. In that environment, DC itself was kind of promoting the idea that, if you want to read about a different GL, then the one we've got has got to go. Perhaps some people wanted Kyle dead because DC had made it clear that, as long as he was around, nobody else would ever be GL again.

Hanging on to that "Kyle must die" attitude now, though, when it has been made very clear that the DCU has room for multiple Lanterns again, seems a bit odd to me. Nowadays, if you don't enjoy reading about Kyle, you've still got GLC and GL you can turn to...

                          • Does anyone think the start of VOLUME 3 was good when they had all the green lanterns of earth (and at that time there were 3)getting roughly equal comic time? I thought it was very good.

On a different note I dont believe the moderators of this forum have anything to do with it being dead lately, and I dont believe that KYLE is the problem either (maybe how Kyle is being written right now but not the character himself),GL has been known to have these dead periods on and off throughout its history.

Yeah. Did Kyle really puncch Hal in the dick? No,But did he fight him on sevreal diffrent ocassions.Sure Did. Did he he Change the Costume and symbol tos eprate himself from Hal Jordan? He sure did. Did he blow up Oa? He sure did.

How dare you question my fandom for Kyle and seem to have no real knowldge of his roots.

But you figured me me out I secretly hate Kyle. That's why his was the first comic I bought regulary,His was the first Green Lantern Action Figure I owned, and I just stood up for him to the one person here who is saying we should kill Kyle. Congrats,You carcked the case Colombo.

But yeah. I guess I am not a big enough fan because I am not will ing to ignore what he stood for when he was created.
