I don't hate Kyle, but I have no use for him. Still, if I were hired to write a Kyle comic, I'd do everything I could think of to make it DC's top seller. And I wouldn't dump on another of DC's characters to do it. That's because Marvel would be my competition, not DC. You don't compete against your own company's products.

In your original post you stated you have seen fans get blocked for having a heated exchange with him right? Sounds to me your blaming the fans and not the writer. Your defending it. Im not sure how active you are on twitter but fans aren't the only people who can be toxic.

That was actually the opposite of what I was saying. DC and Thorne had to know that this backlash was coming. While there is the possibility that some fans might have crossed a line, this controversy was inevitable. Any time a writer states that there is only one Lantern who matters, the entire fanbase knows that the person saying it doesn't really get the mythos. When that character is the most visible in the franchise, the heat will be swift and strong. Thorne might well write some good stories with GL, but he's got an uphill battle with GL readers except for the few who care solely about John Stewart.

Good post. G'nort is the only GL of whom I can think that I don't like at all. He's the only character who could vanish and I wouldn't care. But if Jim Lee called me up and gave me writer duties for a solo G'nort title, I'd give it every ounce of creative energy that I had.

I couldn't in good conscience write a title about Baz and Cruz, unless it was to get the power rings off them and give them another role. In any case, when you're hired to write a title, your job is to make it sell. If I wrote a Charlton team title, I'd try to make it outsell Justice League but without dumping on the Justice League. I might dump on The Avengers, but not on one of DC's properties.

Can't say that I'm super excited for this. On one hand I'm glad to see Alan and his kids, presumably it's straight Alan but likely an alternate timeline or Earth. John being the ONLY Corps representative is raising some flags. Multiple Supermen, Batman and Co., Flashes, etc. I see Booster and Ted Kord in the background so that's a plus... but they're in the background LOL.

If I can flip to the other side of that coin, and loosely apply the principle of ergonomics to this scenario, it's about the employer choosing the right employee and fitting the job to his/her strengths. That's the issue with Thorne on GL for so many people. They aren't questioning that he has skills, but they're wondering if those skills will translate well into this job.

I would not be at ALL surprised if it is the original Alan Scott, retconned to have always been a closeted gay man. Never mind that that would make very little sense with all we've seen of him in the past, including internal dialogue. It would make it line up with the new show, and that may well be all the justification they feel they need.

April Green Lantern launch welcomes new artist and new GLs

Last month DC announced writer Geoffrey Thorne (Truth & Justice) would carry on from his Future State: Green Lantern duties and launch a new Green Lantern series in April, and now we know Thorne will be joined by artist Dexter Soy (Batman & the Outsiders).

"The newly formed United Planets and the Guardians of the Universe hold an intergalactic summit to decide who can best serve and protect the cosmos from danger," reads DC's description.

"With the majority of Green Lanterns called back to Oa, John Stewart arrives alongside Teen Lantern Keli Quintela, whose powerful gauntlet could be one of the most powerful and unstable weapons in the universe. With the entire landscape of the universe in flux, is this the end of the Green Lantern Corps...or a new beginning?"

The publisher is promising the addition of the Far Sector star later on in the series.

"As the new Green Lantern series progresses, Jo Mullein joins the Corps to find out why the Central Power Battery exploded. Jo and Keli are on the case—are they the World’s Finest Lanterns?? What will this dynamic duo uncover as they investigate!?"

Sounds terrible. It looks like this writer wants to bring in and focus on all the worst Lanterns, minus Jessica Cruz. The only thing I can say that I think is good is that they are not using the Future State artist, because, from a professional standpoint, he is bad. Dexter Soy is pretty good.

I guess it's nice that John Stewart is getting focus, although at this point, I really don't care, but, unfortunately, I don't find this intriguing.

Well, the United Planets have been in DC Comics lore for decades and decades, though they're usually linked with Superman's corner of the universe.

That said, I'm not too confident in the writing going on here. I mean, for a small example who wrote this?

Just pretty amatuer level stuff, which, for all the guy (the writer) goes on about how he's a pro, that is sort of the feeling I got from what I saw of the Future State issue. Admittedly, I didn't read the whole thing, because I didn't like the artwork, but it didn't seem good or interesting, and what I did read didn't hold my attention.

Not really looking forward to this run. Doesn't sound interesting to me.
