  • Do you miss Geoff Johns? Is he owed an apology?

I guess at no point during Geoff's many back-to-back cliffhangered megavents full of too many splash pages did I ever imagine that were he to leave, the situation with GL would ever or could ever become as dire as it is today. Would it really be so bad, were he to return given what we've seen over the last few years?

Also... is he owed an apology?

Well, I'd probably prefer him to what we have, but he wouldn't be my first choice.
At least we'd have an actual corps.

      Apology? For what exactly?
I could see preferring his run to what we have now or what we had from Morrison (I know I prefer PARTS of it), but I don't get why he would be owed an apology. The stuff he did that I didn't like I STILL don't like. The existence of stuff I like less doesn't in any way mean he should get an apology for people not liking HIS bad stuff.

I'd be reluctant to have him back because I don't trust him to tame his excesses. Sure, I might like it for a while, when he is fixing the stuff I don't currently enjoy, but then he's most likely going to go on "fixing" stuff until I long for somebody to come fix his fixes again.

Fuck no. Fuck Geoff Johns. Fuck the Rainbow Corps. Fuck Atrocitus. Fuck Larfleeze. Fuck the big yellow space bug. Fuck all of it. That asshole used DC as his own personal jizz farm, and ran it into the ground so hard that they had to reboot it -- TWICE. If anyone is owed an apology, it's us.
Do good. Be well. Make happy.

Johns' stuff was way better than what weve been getting, but I think it would be a mistake to being him back. I can go my whole life without the seeing the cheesy emotional spectrum or lazy hack uninspired umpteen other corps exactly the same just in different colors. Plus, anything he had to say he got to say in his 8 years on the title. Johns' first JSA run was fantastic, his second tour of duty on JSA was the drizzling shitz.

I certainly do not miss Geoff Johns.

I can't deny the popularity of his work, but I personally don't care for it. What's even worse is that, not only is his world building unappealing in my view, he drove his concepts into the ground like nobody's business. I don't want to see that again. Also, I found his delivery of his themes of "overcoming great fear" to be cheesy and corny rather than inspiring. For one thing, I don't think readers should need to be explicitly told what the theme of a story is, and he just hammers you with it overtly over and again with absolutely no finesse. Geoff Johns is certainly not a "finesse" writer.

Green Lantern really sucks these days, but to be fair, I think a lot of Marvel and DC Comics do. At least they did last time I read them and nothing has gotten my attention since then. There seems to be very little planning with them, no stability, and they have weird priorities. Well, a priority like, say, diversity, isn't weird, but the way these companies go about executing on that is often quite wrong headed and eye-roll-y to me.

I miss Green Lantern having multiple books. I miss the other Corps. I miss that era, but I don't often miss writers. Eras have a way of organically coming to an end, and that's how it felt with Johns' time. He seems happy with what he's doing, especially the Stargirl show, and I doubt that he's in a rush to come back to a bygone time in his life.

Of course, I've been a fan of Venditti, Morrison, and Thorne. If I were less satisfied with GL, I might be longing for something different. However, I've liked the distinct flavors that we've gotten over the last 25 years.

I liked the other color Corps, they breathed life into a dying comic. Once Kyle Rayner became Ion, the train left the rails. Recharge and Blackest Night brought all the glory back and added some.

My major complaint is that comic book writers seem to get to number 8 out of 10 in the series, and then "give up". Or make stupid mistakes, silly endings, and trope endings. Why? Because they have to "drop" the storyline that they are on, and move on to the next job, leaving the last issue to the "staff" at DC headquarters? We also have writers who never read a GL book in their lives until they are brought onboard the DC table to write Green Lantern, and have a "great" story idea that forgets it happened already back in the 1980s. "Consistency" was not an operational word during Geoff Johns' time.

Geoff Johns was the type who played a great beginning game, but left in the last quarter to start some other job, not finishing the work he started. I'd rather not have that roller-coaster come back.

I enjoyed his GL work and his work on other characters/titles.

I don't think he needs to return outside of the occasional 8 pager or one-shot type material.

I think it would send the wrong message as well, implying that there can only be one savior for the franchise, which just shouldn't be true.

Well, if he's the only guy that DC will employ that doesn't have to virtue signal... I mean, what's the alternative? Who else could they get?

Apology for what? He wrote it completely into the ground, then quit and went on to make vastly more money in movies and television.

It's so fucked up now that it can't be fixed. Besides that, any writer will be forced to use characters and concepts nobody should want to use.
