There really is only one thing you should think about when deciding whether or not to read a comic: do you enjoy that particular comic?
As long as we all continue to buy crossovers because we're afraid we'll miss something "important," DC and Marvel will continue to publish them and drop various "important" moments across their universes.
DC needs to go back to having each title be independent. That way they will be committed to quality on any book they want to sell.

PERFECT! Thats the perfect way to destroy the DC Universe. Lets have everyone be individual and have no type of crossovers because Batman couldn't possibly exist in the same universe as Hal Jordan! And it makes no sense that The Flash could, lets say, run to another hero's city...blasphemous!

You misunderstand what I said. There should always be a DCU where all the characters can meet and guest star in each other's titles, I'm just tired of all the crossovers where you're forced to read Batman to find out something important about Flash. A good example of this is the Sinestro Corps War: other DC characters appeared where it was appropriate, but the story was contained to the GL books instead of spilling over into everyone else's titles. If you were a Flash or Batman reader that didn't care about GL you weren't effected.
Sorry if I wasn't clear before.

Ok, I understand. Like now, I'm reading the Batman RIP arc and of course they have a checklist of other books that I should read to further push the story. All tie-ins aren't necessary to read though. I think its pretty obvious to catch the issues that are essential to the story you really want to read. As of right now, I plan on picking up most of the FC tie-ins, because they all sound great and it will make the FC event THAT much better.
