You can't use the Johns era as your foundation and write a good GL comic that's based on that. You have to go back to the pre-Marz era.

There will be plenty from the GJ era from which good future stories will spring. Fans just need some time to feel nostalgic for some of those concepts and characters. Right now, Green Lantern is going through a palate-cleansing stage after years of mega-crossover war stories. Those stories were successful, but everything has limits.

I think Geoff's spawning the Skittles Corps, Baz and Cruz, followed by years and years of Robert Venditti's lackluster writing, drove most of the OLD fans away. The people who follow Geoff around and buy only what he writes were never Green Lantern fans anyway.

I disagree entirely. I started with Green Lantern/Green Arrow, dropped comics and got involved again just as Kyle started. I liked Kyle's version of GL. The stories only got boring just before Rebirth (Ion was terrible before Blackest Night), but there were several enjoyable stories, it was just that no matter what, there was a Standard Setting for GL with Kyle, and it was never advanced or broken, no matter the one-shots and story arcs. And Hal being The Spectre was a terrible idea.

I absolutely loved the Color Corps, but something went wrong with Blackest Night, and this was more obvious with Brightest Day. The Guardians became unable to control the rings - the rings would choose people and do things on their own. Someone in the editor room decided to do the usual "pump-and-dump" with all the colors, the GL movie ruined an entire year's worth's of GL, and then came Krona (again) with War of the Rings and Third Army.

It's like instead of good, reliable stories using the history of GL along with rules set in stone, as soon as sales drop the editors set everything on fire to make sales go up again. There's only so many times you can "destroy-rebuild" entire stories until fatigue sets in. And introducing more and more Human characters into a plot that was the epitome of racial diversity is also ridiculous. Almost like the racial black-white alien vs white-black alien on Star Trek The Original Series, followed by a woman-in-Kirk's-body.

Now we have Phantom Rings and female-Hispanic Human GLs and Muslim GLs and Hal Jordan taking center stage again. The Blue Corps has been decimated. Sinestro is alive out there somewhere but he should be proud of his daughter now, with her leading his Sinestro Corps against the GLC. The other Corps have been parodied (Larfleeze), ignored and dropped (Fatality and the Sapphire Corps), or regulated to the Standard Setting (Red Lanterns). There are no White Lanterns anymore (JLA notwithstanding).

With just one GL book, the editors might try to limp along for years, until the next summer mega-blockbuster or other dumpster fire gets things going again. I'm picking and choosing individual issues now. I'm still a Guy Gardner fan, a Kyle Rayner fan, with Hal and John but not Baz or Jessica. If the rules on power rings and power batteries going to sentients means anything in the DCU anymore.

I fully expected Morrison to ignore the fact that Hal forged this new ring. People just like the idea that it's literally the same ring that Hal has always had. I get it, but Hal forging his ring shouldn't be completely forgotten. I'm sure there's some BS pseudo-science that can explain how all of Hal's rings essentially lead to the same pocket universe that's personal to him.

I am a bit surprised that the drama at the end hinged on Hal's ring running out of juice. The Ring Lady whatsername mentioned Abin Sur so she's been around the whole time, but are we supposed to think that Hal's ring has never run out of power? It's happened a million times, why would this time be so different?

It's happened a million times, why would this time be so different?

Yeah, I feel like he was trying to say this was different (maybe because of the bomb?), but it wasn't clearly stated.
