  • Stockton-Con 2013: August 4th

I'll be checking this out, since it's less than 15 minutes away from where I live. Last year, the show was epic, and had a HUGE turn-out. They've changed the venue from a college gym to the Stockton Arena, so they've anticipated a huge showing.

From what I've read on the Facebook page, local comic shops have sold out of tickets, so you can only buy them at the door.

Interesting that the Con is on a Sunday. Probably less expensive to rent the venue. Anyway, it should be a good day to attend the Con since they temperatures have been below seasonal average.

However, made plans with my wife to be elsewhere.

Enjoy the con and post pics!

Hmm, Cheryl Ferris and I have been contemplating bringing the kids to smaller shows to work our way up to Wondercon and SDCC. Maybe this will be a good intro.

The Stockton arena, is this where there used to be an Am Pm and a Holiday Inn?

I think smaller cons would be a nice way to introduce kids to the convention scene. SDCC is pretty overwhelming, even for adults.

Honestly, I have no idea. I'm not too familiar with the downtown area. I do know that it's close to the movie theater.

This would be a great show to take your children to expose them to the world of comic conventions. It will feature a good deal of cosplay, have B-list celebs on hand and have TCG card gaming. I'm expecting big things from this show, especially since last year's was huge.

Got tickets from a shop in Sac. Told the kids they are hella excited. I think I am going to have them go in their halloween costumes (Black Lantern Batman, Robin and Batgirl). I suggested to Cheryl Ferris that we dress up with "bloody" shirts and be Thomas and Martha Wayne.

Bloody Thomas and Martha Wayne sounds pretty cool.

Heard from Sylent that the con was well attended.

I just saw the pic below on FB from the Stockton-Con:

I don't think I've ever seen anything like this before; three women looking at back issues side-by-side-by-side. I don't think I've ever seen more than 1 or 2 women enter a comic book store (w/out a husband, boyfriend, or a friend that was a guy) and buying comic books for themselves.

Twas a great show! Over 7,000 people showed up, which is almost double from last year's show. There are rumors that next year's show will be two days!

Saw a couple of High School friends, a bunch of Yu-Gi-Oh friends and a ton of cool cosplayers. It was also good seeing nevermore, Cheryl Ferris and their children, who seemed to really be into cosplay. Too bad Ivy Doomkitty cancelled at the last minute. Apparently, she had taken ill. Pics are forthcoming shortly.

The kids LOVED it! They were stopped for a pic before we even got in the door, they posed like little pros...I had a total geek mom pride moment lol! I picked up a couple Doctor Who prints, Rigo got a couple Blackest Night figs he needed and the kids each got to pick something.

I saw one booth with the sdcc13 my little pony for 50 and one not like ten booths down for 100 haha!

Thanks for the heads up Sylent, great seeing you, see you in Sac.

No prob! It was great seeing you and nevermore and meeting your kids. I'm glad it was a good family experience for you. The show itself was great! I got some really good deals on a few figures and got to catch up with some people I hadn't seen in years.

You can't even give that My Little Pony exclusive away on the secondary market. It doesn't even sell for cost. Pity, because it's a really attractive piece. If you hold onto it, it may rise in value during Christmas time.

Yeah, hopefully I can recover my costs for My Little Pony at Christmas.

It seems like we always pick the wrong exclusives, but oh well, Belle got a pretty one and she loves it.
