  • Young Justice Animated Series

    via BleedingCool

Apparently there is a new animated series in the offing, Young Justice League. Very little is known about it. Is it more of a Teen Titans (collection of sidekicks and younger superheroes), a Young Avengers(new characters mimicking existing superheroes) of Her-Oes(de-aged characters in a new setting)? No idea.

But we do know it that Stephanie Lemelin is doing on of the voices, that of Arrowette. Because she went and blabbed on her blog, and even provided this little snippet of artwork.

WOW. Ok… I am beyond thrilled to announce that I was recently cast in the new animated series, YOUNG JUSTICE LEAGUE, based on the famous (and awesome!?) DC Comics. I seriously could not be more excited about being welcomed into this amazing family… what a fantastic way to start the new year! I will be voicing the character of Arrowette (see ridiculously hot avatar below!!! um, could I love her anymore?) as well as several supporting cast members… Due to the extreme popularity of this series, however, that’s about all I can say… for now. So excited, this is really a dream come true for me, I have ALWAYS WANTED TO BE A SATURDAY MORNING CARTOOON!!! Woohoo!
Arrowette is of course a character from the Young Justice comic book, whose mother had previously appeared in sixties Justice League Of America. So can we assume that Young Justice League is some kind of animated adaptation of that now-abandoned youthful revamp Young Justiceby Todd Dezago and Peter David? Pretty please?

Stephanie is better known as the character Thorne in Cavemen, and played Mei Ling in Kung Fu Panda.

    A forum poster "AnimaTed"
also recently spread word of this series among others. Here are a few quotes:

WB has 3 NEW series on their slate, Mystery INC- the new Scooby show, Young Justice, and Bruce Timms CG Green Lantern for 4Q 2011. ALL for Cartoon Network, who originally passed on the new Thundercats. Both Mattel and Hasbro got the series pitch and passed on the toys for couple different reasons. "Lack of cool tech" the big one. But Ban Dai did a hard core play for the rights. They weren't interested in a "Classic" adult line, and thought that the new take on the series was something very different for the toy aisles. Which is what Mattel and Hasbro were afraid of.
It's Sorta THE Young Justice. They will be going out with this BIG TIME at Comic Con. From what I saw, it's Martian Girl, Aqualad, Nightwing, Impulse, Arrowette, and Connor Kent. The poster gives me the tone that it's a cross between JLU and TT. I liked the look a lot. It's not quite Timm-style, but it's not All Murikami'd out like Teen Titans.

The kids were the focus of the poster, in the center, but The JL was behind them.

Very cool for YJ fans. The lineup listed at the end, even if not completely what comes to pass, doesn't surprise me. And Bruce Timm doing Green Lantern next year? That's just awesome.

I hope its ROBIN and not Nightwing, because that just wouldn't make since. Also, Tim Drake needs to be back in DCAU. The addition of Miss Martian seems too much like the Teen Titans formula.

They may be trying to steal some of Marvel's thunder by doing a "junior JLA" type of show. Like the Titans didn't fill that role already. This may end up being a mishmash of all the youth teams DC has done just to make it look like young versions of the big 7...or 8 if you count Arrowette. That's 6 out of 8. Just need a Kid Lantern, and a Wondergirl.

A Kid Lantern would be lame. And I'm really disappointed they didn't put Cassie in there. Her relationship with meathead Conner would have been nice to see.

Oh trust me, I'm glad they didn't create a young GL too. It's always been a bad idea. To be honest, I stopped liking the teen sidekick and teen superhero concept since I was a kid myself. What's wrong with a man who takes a kid out at four in the morning, wearing tight green panties and little peter pan slippers to jump accross rooftops and get shot at? It's ridiculous. At least if the kid had powers you could maybe justify it that the kid needs to be channelled into something good and positive, that his powers are part of him. But Robin? Send the kid to school you pervert!

Well...to be fair...all Robins have had the best education money can buy. They just have to work for it during....recess.

Now, that's what I'm talkin' about!.. aside from another lame Scooby show. How many times does it take to realize that Scooby Doo fails?
