After a pretty cool first episode it nosedives into like this angry empty headed liberal agenda of talking points (ICE is evil, climate change, etc.) and writers who don't understand Picard or Seven. You will walk out of it very angry. You'll notice that each episode has about 20 producers for some reason, which makes sense.
Std was trash. I tried defending it but when a klingon showed her tits i left. I didn't finish season 1 of Std. Would you say picard is worse than discovery?

It's more upsetting than Discuckery, just because it has characters we used to care about. Also it looks significantly cheaper than Discuckery.

        • I've been on a bit of a Star Trek kick again lately. Mostly old real Trek. The only new thing I've sat through is when my son made me sit down with him and watch Star Trek: Prodigy season 1. I have to say, for what it was it was executed very well. A show kids and parents can watch together. It gets away from the grind of Starfleet in a clever way by having the typical ragtag group of youths steal a starship to justify why this cast is actually on the ship. It worked very well and we plan on watching the next season when it drops.

For old stuff I've been watching the kirk era movies again. I've been rediscovering love for the 1979 TMP film with the new cleaned up re edited version Paramount released to streaming. Maybe it's because I'm older but that movie has aged better and better as time goes on.

For toys I picked up the mego 12" 1979 TMP figures of Spock and Kirk complete in their boxes. And I've been working on getting all 4 of the 1984 Ertl figures for the Search For Spock. I just need Kirk now to complete those and they display great with my 3 3/4" TMP mego figures. And lastly I picked up a 1995 Playmates Enterprise from TOS era. I got it for 50 bucks loose with the stand and after removing and fixing the decals it makes a really nice display piece for a toy. Not as nice as a high end model but for the price it's still pretty accurate and looks good.

          • ^I feel like fans in general have re-evaluated TMP and rank it higher. I enjoy it. I joke with my mother because she says the scene where Scotty takes Kirk to dock with the retrofit Enterprise is way too long and I keep telling her I could look at the model at least twice as long.

I have the Knickerbock Kirk. They only made one other (Spock) and neither is super rare. They're soft-body with hollow, dolllike heads.

            • Are those the plush like figures? I think I know the ones you are talking about. Pretty cool. And yea I agree about the spacedock scene. I'm a sucker for those scenes where we get those Enterprise money shots as the crew sees the ship again along with the audience. Never too long.

Yeah. It's visible (held by a large doll stand) on the bottom shelf in this partial photo of my Trek collection. I've seen Spock (the only other one Knickerbocker did) several times including in box, so I should be able to complete this collection easily. They're just weird and fun. They have velcro hands, which is why Kirk is holding that hands down position.

It's lots of people's favorite and I get that. Honestly, the Enterprise D is the one I'd rather live on, but I just find TOS more fun and they don't have the ridiculous anti-capitalism stuff yet (i.e. they got paid). It's all good. I've watched all the shows from TOS through ENT at least twice (many much more) and like them all.

Yeah that Kirk plush is the one I had in my head when you mentioned it. Nice pic!

                      • Here's the other two photos that cover my Star Trek displayed collection. I don't display everything (like my Playmates TNG figs) and I got the 12" Mirror Universe Marlena while in Chicago. Also, my many Trek books are on a separate shelf because it just doesn't really work layoutwise particularly because of the Enterprise phone that is my working den phone):

Does it have a satisfying conclusion? Ever since Stargate: Universe I've resolved to never watch shows that get cancelled before they really make it to the basket.

I never read the books so in that particular area i cant say but the show for me yes it does tie up nicely. First season can be slow since it has a detective story . Thomas jane is the detective. Also its not your typical scifi with warp speed or lazers. The ships mimic real nasa space flights . Its actually pretty cool. The writers of the show use real science. Like theres a discussion about having sex in space and the show touches on that. They also touch on people harvesting and hauling ice since water is scarce. Ill leave it there to avoid spoilers and how everything ties together
