  • Bullet to the Head (2012)

"You had me at 'f**k you.'"

So, like Agent (a few pages back), I thought this was decent, but not great. There's some good action but the jokes fall a little flat and there's no real chemistry between Stallone and Kang, both of whom I really like. One thing this made me realize is that the makers of the last Conan the Barbarian (which I liked but not loved) didn't use Momoa to his full potential because he is a bada** in this.

    • Good movie and good performances to boot.

      • Mad Dog Morgan (1976)

"The more I see of man, the more I admire dogs."

A weird movie. It's essentially an Australian Western with Hopper playing an outlaw as he's being hunted. It's pretty violent (for the time) and interesting enough, but it feels random with quick cuts and seemingly pointless vignettes.

        Men in Black (1997)

"Elvis is not dead. He just went home."

The only problem I had with this movie (and it was admittedly a minor one, I DID enjoy it) was how distinctive Nick Cage's voice is. The whole movie it was a nagging distraction where I was thinking to myself, "Yup, that's Nick Cage."

Nic Cage was born to play a caveman.

"Elwood: It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?

                        • Invasion of the Star Creatures (1962)

"Wow! That's the first time a salad's ever tossed me!"

Two bumbling Army privates are brought along on a mission to explore a new cave system, but discover aliens (two space women) and an army of "vegetable men" are plotting to mark the planet for conquest. Using their significant lack of wits, they must overcome the impossible.

Yes, this is 60s comedy at its weirdest. Bob Ball looks like a young Bill Murray, sounds like every Curly, and does more prop comedy than Carrot Top. Frankie Ray is almost tame by comparison.

The Colonel, Rank (Mark Ferris) is a little amusing for a guy with a memory like a sieve. His picture of himself on the wall saluting actually changes mid-scene to show him eavesdropping on his own conversation, like something right out of a Looney Tunes episode. The Sergeant is just crazy. Half of the dialog is Army jargon mixed with beatnick lingo.

The female space scientists are pretty attractive, and their outfits, while outlandish in all their 60s space glory, are actually oddly sexy:

The vegetable men, though, drive a comical stake right through the heart:

Have you ever seen such hilariously awful costume work outside of The Blood Waters of Dr. Z?

Of course, the film is strangely entertaining even today. Some of the completely absurd jokes, like the ones at the film's opening, are so bad they're instantly classic.

This is part of a double-disc with Invasion of the Bee Girls, which I'll be watching shortly. Expect more insanity-inducing nonsense.

                            • Destroy All Monsters (1968)

                              "Try to contact the moon."

                              Exit to Hell (2013)

"Around here justice is always served."

Pretty cheesey at times, but it's attempt to recreate a grindhouse feature (including crappy rear projection in the car windows) was fun.

I liked it a lot when I saw it but was severely disappointed when I read about so much of the science is wrong (including some stuff foundational to how it starts and ends). But it's a nice turn for Bullock and Clooney is great too. It's also visually stunning at times.
