  • Dear White People Official Red Band Trailer (2014)

    Dear White People

This movie cover a lot of social/racial issues through four main characters/archetypes: the angry black woman; the black guy that adjust his level of "Urbaness" to fit the group he is with or socially acceptable; the "Oreo" (black on the outside and white in the inside); the black guy that doesn't fit into any group (White, Black, or other)/social outcast. I really didn't find this funny and all though it covered many issues it really didn't provide answers. It's just a movie about dealing with the issues the best way they can.

        • Lucy - This explores a situation where a lady is able to increasingly access the full capacity of her brain's ability. It started out kind of cool, but went over-the-top weird in a hurry. It wasn't as bad as everyone says, but it wasn't great either.

            • 50 Shades of Grey - Not as bad as expected but not good. Terrible ending that surely reads better than it played. Same with the sex scenes. Game of Thrones is more hardcore.

"And it feels good to be a wolf, doesn't it?"

Despite liking this one, I hadn't watched it in a while because I still had it on VHS only and I don't use the ol VCR too often. But, now that I have it on BD, it's back in rotation.

Oddly enough, this flick may have had an effect on the work I did. Despite the fact that they're all cut-throat and literati snobs, for some reason the way they portrayed the publishing field and chief editor just seemed really cool to me way back when.

Last night was the first time I've seen the film since it was first released back in 1995, IIRC. I don't think I fully understood the film then. So before I watched it last night, I did some research to help me better understand what I was looking at and it helped tremendously.

The artwork in this film is amazing. The wide shots of the city was purely awesome as it was very detailed and captured the every day life of a big city. So much eye candy in this film. The plot and story was very deep, complex and philosophical as it raises the question of A.I. being a new species of life and whether or not humans are closer to becoming more like an A.I. as we are increasingly becoming more intertwined with technology. In this scifi story, human as able to transfer their consciousness aka "Ghost" into android bodies, and therefore vulnerable to hacks where simulated memories can be implanted to almost anyone and their real memories erased. This movie was so advanced for it's time, it's incredible.
