Speaking of those (and NoES is a great story and much more serious in tone), Raimi and Craven easter egged each other before either was popular. In Evil Dead, there's a ripped poster of Craven's The Hills Have Eyes in the basement. He caught the reference and paid in kind by having Nancy actually watch a clip of Evil Dead on TV in NoES.

Yeah, the Necronomicon was a direct reference to HP Lovecraft and he kept the theme through the next two movies. I suspect some of the horror movie makers that reference it today learned of it from Raimi before Lovecraft.

Yeah, that is confusing if you haven't heard about it (like my friend and I when we first watched it). Basically, it's mis-titled. What happened is that Evil Dead became a cult hit and the studios said they'd give Raimi more money to do it again, so he did what would now be called a reboot. It's not a sequel at all (everyone--including Ash, really---is dead at the end of ED). It's a re-imagining of ED with more money (though still not a big budget). A lot of fans actually prefer #2 (not me, though I like it). It's noted for being much more slapstick (Raimi and Campbell are big Three Stooges fans) and for setting up Army of Darkness (though even that ended up slightly retconning the ending).

            • Saw this today. Fun movie that was at least entertaining. There were plenty of points where the writing was kind of shitty and the villain was pretty weak. It's not one of the better Marvel films. But it was at least worth watching and I was never bored at any point while watching it.

Wow, I never knew that about "it was a reboot before there were reboots" aspect of the series. I did have the trilogy at one point, but it got traded in for cash during the great horror purge of 2008. I would be interested to watch all three of them again, though, at some point in the near future.

                        This.

I had a great time watching this flick. Definitely thumbs up!

I'm glad Marvel returned to a smaller scale after Age of Ultron and introduced Ant-Man, as it makes a wonderful addition to the MCU. Moreover, it takes a character who's power set may not be desired by the masses to being desired. Meaning, they made Ant-man and his power pretty cool and badass. Additionally, the movie makes the viewer care about ants like they were puppies or kittens.

The film was fun and entertaining as you can see Edgar Wright's fingerprints all over the film. The movie is character driven and Paul Rudd is wonderful in the lead role. The supporting characters all have their moments too and contribute nicely to the film.

The two end credit scenes were worth sticking around for as they do further enhance the MCU.

I think anyone that sees this film will want to see it again and would welcome a sequel.

Another (in)famous movie I somehow missed all these years (and one of only a few Verhoeven movies I haven't seen). Anyway, this was fun. The dialogue is "classic."
