I saw Killer Mermaid. It's mostly pretty bad. The effects are all CGI, but not horrible. The story is okay, but most of the acting is not. The strongest point to me was Franco Nero (an Italian superstar best known for playing the original Django).

      • Watched the Throne of Atlantis blu ray. This was good (cool to see Aquaman get some love, I'm a fan).but the pacing was at times bizarre (intractable pauses in conversations pop up early on).

I'm wondering whether the graphic novel is earth shatteringly better. Because I might buy that and get rid of the blu ray lol! I thought War, Flashpoint, and Doom were all way better than this.

I haven't seen the movie but if I remember correctly when it first came out I was hearing how the comic was better.

            • Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

              "Remember me."

My mother and stepfather thought this was absolute garbage, but I actually found it to be a fairly entertaining film. There isn't quite enough in the way of explanation for the tribe led by Immortan Joe (or why he spells his name like that), but the story holds itself together just enough to last.

The cast is fairly interesting (the understandably-treacherous Furiosa, the survivalist Max, the sycophantic Warboy, the demagogue Joe), but a little more explanation for some characters would have been appreciated; I know I wanted just a tad more insight into the accountant with the ugly feet and the pharaoh-like boss in the tank-car, and a touch more background to the surrogate mothers would have been nice. The case can definitely be made for Hardy's Max being a bit tight-lipped and less affable than he's ever been portrayed, but the start of the film makes it clear he's basically a crazed loner chased by madmen and haunted by ghosts. He's not a people person anymore.

And speaking of vehicles, this film had some real beauts. My dad loved Joe's double Cadillac, and certainly hating the war-rig would be in bad taste. Just as much as in the first two films, the rides are the stars just as much as the actors.

And oh dear heaven, the stunts. Amazing work all around, from the jumps and leaps to the crashes and explosions. Utterly astounding visuals left, right, and center. It's like a modern-day Blues Brothers.

              Highly recommend.

I like this movie very much because witches die. I hate witches/Wiccans/new age smelly hippies. There should be official government jobs based upon this movie.

                    • Deadpool - A great deal of my friends loved this film, but I thought it was just okay, but WAY over the top with the swearing and vulgarity. This movie was like Family Guy if they were allowed to show nudity and swear. I also thought that some of the raunchy comedy was forced. It's worth watching if you like Deadpool, but don't pay full price. See it during matinee.

                      • Yeah, I got the impression that Deadpool is Rated R for just about every reason a movie gets an R-Rating. A lot of reviews I've read have taken pains to make this clear, since the popularity of Marvel movies in general, and the amusing Trailers for this one, made it pretty certain that there were going to be a lot of kids under the age limits that would be asking to go see it, and I think the reviewers wanted to make sure that parents knew what they were getting into if they chose to take kids to see it, namely that this isn't "just barely" rated R.

                        • Yeah, Deadpool earned it's R rating.

I caught it last night; I haven't laughed so loud so much in a very long time. The dog was in complete disarray. LOL
