    • I thought it was "Humangus"? And I am fairly sure that it's spelled Ayatollah, with an "H," but I saw that on a T-shirt in a Simpsons episode, so...

"Even the word computer sounds backward and dumb."

I think I've seen all of Cronenberg's movies now and despite the fact that there's no weird powers, body abnormalities, or strange jobs here, this might be the weirdest and the most disappointing.

I just cut and pasted from IMDb's quotes page, but it sounded like Humungus to me, when I heard it like an hour ago. I can't swear that, though. And yeah, Ayatollah has an "h" (see here), but I didn't drop the "h."

        • Well, I thought I didn't see the H at the end, but I suppose it hardly matters, and I haven't seen Road Warrior in probably 15 years, so I am really just guessing at his name. I'd have to check that in-film credits, I suppose, but I don't think it's worth it.

            Ah, well in that case, it's about time to see it again. So much great stuff in those 95 minutes. Fun fact (for the animal lovers) I just found out: his dog was rescued from euthanasia at a pound. After the movie, the trainer gave him to a sheep farm and he lived and worked happily another seven years! {Jeff should appreciate that factoid}

            • When Eight Bells Toll (1971)

"Boats would be wonderful... if only one didn't have to go to sea in them."

A rash of disappearances of boats catches the attention of British espionage forces, and Anthony Hopkins (under the supervision of Robert Morley) must get to the bottom of a plot to steal millions of pounds of gold bullion.

Finally got around to watching this with my dad after awaiting its release for a while, and very glad I saw it. The film is indeed very Bond-like, and it doesn't do a bad job of it, with Hopkins giving a solid performance as a roguish investigative spy and Morley his superior (and Morley will make you think he's the inspiration for Vernon Dursley in so many ways).

The location shots are really something, with great views of the Scottish coast (including some wonderful views of these impressive cliffs) and some castle scenes, and even a diving sequence into a sunken vessel.

The action itself is solid, getting your attention right from the start with Hopkins infiltrating a ship via its anchor chain only to seemingly be caught. Was it just a training exercise? A betrayal? Or worse? You don't really think it's everything it may seem like until a key turn of events much later, but what happens in the first several minutes of the film are actually important clues. For an espionage film, Eight Bells knows how to work the system, and that's par for the course for Alistair MacLean.

Overall, this is a must-see picture. It shows the earlier portion of an award-winning actor's career, was crafted by one of the best storytellers whose films I've seen, and it holds its own in a realm ruled by 007.

Arguably the only weakness is a lack of extras: the Blu-ray contains only a series of trailers, for this film and several others (Juggernaut, The Satan Bug, The File of the Golden Goose). I assure you the transfer quality is superb, as expected of a Kino Lorber release.

              • Punisher:War Zone (2008)

"Let me put you out of my misery."

                Sniper (1993)

"Don't take a piss. Bugs will swarm right up through your d**k. Good night."

                Alfie (2004)

"My life's my own. But I don't have peace of mind."

                The Gunman (2015)

"It's the ones who aren't after you that do you in the end."

                Werewolf in Girl's Dormitory (1961)

                "You're just a slut."

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny (2016)

"We don't hold the sword. The sword hold us."

Watched this again not because it was great, but because I watched it with a friend the first time and we pretty much talked through the whole thing thus obscuring much of the dialogue and plot to me.

                Sicario (2015)

"You should move to a small town, somewhere the rule of law still exists. You will not survive here. You are not a wolf, and this is a land of wolves now."

                Very dark, but good.

                Godzilla vs Gigan (1972)

                "You cheeky pig!"

                Judgment at Nuremberg (1961)

"There are those in our country today, too, who speak of the protection of the country. Of survival. The answer to that is, survival as what? A country isn't a rock. And it isn't an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for, when standing for something is the most difficult! Before the people of the world, let it now be noted in our decision here that this is what we stand for: justice, truth and the value of a single human being!"

                Sushi Girl (2012)

"Remember you are a tray. You must not move. You must not make eye contact. You must not react. No matter what you see or hear."

Mark Hamill was great in this.

Yeah, that's in the conversation I quoted. The Jonah Hill does a pretty funny Mexican gangster, but Tatum can't improvise and ends up as something like Swedish.

I don't think I ever saw the whole movie, but Booster kid showed me that gif when I just called myself Jeff on here. Looks like the type of comedy I would dig, though.
