Zoolander 2 (2016)
"I'm going to retire, withdraw from public life, and become a hermit crab."
I'm not sure I'd say this was as good as the first, but I thought it was pretty funny. The cameos were great and you can't go wrong with a movie that starts with the violent death of Justin Bieber!
Hostage (2005)
"Rich people always got a way out."
"She DOES look like she licked a homeless man's asshole."
Micheal Keaton is a washed-up superhero actor trying to adapt a play from a novel and struggles to hold the entire mess together. Oddly, he has real superpowers to accompany his real problems.
This is one very unusual film. Almost the entire film is a continuous shot, similar to Alfred Hitchcock's Rope, following one star and then another and then another, with very few traditional scene transitions (only two or three, just when the time of day is shown to change). In a way that makes it very alive and refreshing.
The characters are various and pretty well-done, albeit just about everyone is a raging jerk, especially Ed Norton. That seems to actually work, as it portrays the cast as being sometimes sincere and friendly to each other and very intimate, very personal and caring and honest, but at the same time they are very selfish and careless and ruthless.
Throughout the film, Keaton again and again is pestered by the voice of his former superhero character, Birdman, who mocks his current situation and insists he's better than everyone else and should put the suit back on and stop pretending to live a lie. The effect basically creates a meta-ness to the whole film, making it feel like it's breaking the fourth wall and commenting on actual entertainment industry issues more than a single film's characters.
Overall, it's a good film, and quite well done, but it isn't for everyone, and can feel like it's pretentious out the ass.
Recommend.

I still haven't seen this, but your description gives me an idea why I've heard some people who seem to think this is the greatest thing since Citizen Kane and others who said to avoid it like the plague.
Yeah, I finally got around to watching it. I liked SP Vs.TW and thought it was pretty good. It's a well made movie with good performances from the cast, excellent cinematography and visual effects, and impressive fight choreography but I didn't entirely understand the film. It's one of those movies that benefits from repeat viewings. I've seen the deleted scenes and alternate ending but I'll watch the rest of the special features in the near future.
