Well, as I say, the voice-acting was top-notch, but I always feel that children's movies based on historical events have a certain responsibility of historicity since children don't really grasp the need to fictionalize scripts. This one starts in a bad place (the rather ridiculous claims of Anastasia surviving were well discredited by the time this movie came out and have since been proven wrong forensically). Besides that, they compress the timeline between Rasputin, the Dowager's departure (though she did leave on a train), and the execution of the Romanovs.* But what really bothered me was this stupid thing about Rasputin's curse igniting a "small ember of Russian discontent." I'm no fan of the Bolsheviks, but the movement (including a major attempted revolt in 1905) had been building for decades. Nicholas was no innocent. At best he was antisemitic and criminally neglectful. More likely he was a murderous tyrant.Originally posted by Booster Beetle View Post

Weird comparison, but I'd agree. I love 1776 and it remains the only show I've ever seen on Broadway. Its historicity, while not impeccable, is certainly better than Anastasia.
