I did kind of like that real Jason's mask had melded into his face in JGtH. I wouldn't want that look permanently, but it was a cool one-off concept.

          • Transformers: The Movie (1986)

"I knew you had potential, Lad."

It used to be that whenever I heard the Star Wars Main Theme, I would get that tingly sensation all over my body. Somewhere along the line, that feeling went away, maybe because I had just heard it so many times that it got stale. Well, I felt it again tonight- upon hearing the opening Transformers theme song to the movie.

This was my birthday movie for turning 41, and ironically, it is also the 30th anniversary of the movie's release. It should be noted that it is precisely during this movie when Grimlock turned from kick-ass warrior into comic relief, which has it's ups and downs. It should also be noted that this was a turning point in the entire mythology of the Transformers- fans were introduced to the Matrix, the Quintessons, Unicron, the reformatting of Megatron, and Rodimus Prime; all of which would bear significant contributions to all things Transformers moving forward from this point on.

A 30th anniversary Blu-Ray was released today as well, but I couldn't find it in the stores so I just ordered it online. However, I still have 2 other copies of the movie on dvd- the original and 20th anniversary editions. I went for the 20th this time. It actually frightens me that the movie is 30 years old because I can remember the day my dad took me to see it in the theaters when it was released.

Moral of the story, people- don't grow up.

                    Oh, I missed this.

Yes, I agree it was a cool look, and his overall aesthetic was pleasing to the crystal lake connoisseur, I had just hoped to see what his face looked like underneath the mask in this movie, as each movie has its own look and feel.

Somewhere there exists a novel (not sure if it was fanfic or an actual published piece) that explains events between 8 and 9 since it was a bit of a gap.

Although I don't generally read novelizations, I keep looking for some of the F13 ones because they're supposed to have missing elements (e.g., I think #6 has the dropped Jason's father story), but they're rare and expensive. I keep an eye out when I go to these used book stores and flea markets, but no luck yet.

                        • I read the novel versions of FvJ and the TCM remake. They were god-awful bad. Author did the arguable-favor of switching out certain scenes, so that you got to read the alternate takes of a few parts and the ending was different, but I don't agree that should have been done, since those scenes weren't in FvJ and therefore he was wasting his energy and our time.

This was great. Sorry I waited so long. Already recommended it to family.

I don't know in those particular cases if this is the case, but I've heard that the novelizations are often quite different because the authors have to start writing way before the final shooting script and usually the publication date is too close to make major re-writes when the script changes. Some commentary I was watching just mentioned this phenomenon and said it happens more often than not. That's also why certain collectors like to get them, since they represent an earlier (if not first) script (the other, of course, being that things that are only shown in the movie are explained).
