I need to watch 8 1/2 again. It's been quite a while. For some reason, La Dolce Vita didn't grab me as much as it seems to other people.
Actually I have seen La Strada, saw it one of my film classes too. Very good film, very interesting too. One of Anthony Quinn's best performances too. Also his first non English language film I believe (he would act in a lot of those later on).

I suppose it could be argued once Nino Rota died, Fellini's movies changed quite a bit. Like any good composer, his music worked well with the film's images. Often helping with the mood and atmosphere.

          • ^I enjoyed that movie if not for the simple reason that we get to see a strange new world and different breed of hunter, but the one thing that irked me was that kid from That 70's Show being in it. It didn't feel right for him to be a main antagonist of anything other than his own ineptitude. Kudos, though, to the rest of the cast whom I felt did a great job. I get that they were trying to replicate the vibe of the original, and to some extent it worked, but the first was so new and fresh that its grandeur lied in its originality.

I remember at first thinking it was a different part of Predator home world, but they strongly imply it's a separate planet they use only for hunting. I think the movie did a good job. If anything, it tried too hard to be #1 (a few too many callbacks), but I really like it. Topher is annoying, but the worst part is that no one seems to figure out he's a killer. It's as if they assume only soldiers are fighters--stupid.

              • Batman: The Dark Knight Returns: Part 2 (2012)

                "We were always criminals, Clark."

The conclusion to the animated adaptation of the only Frank Miller Batman story worth half a damn (his All-Star Batman blew chunks, don't deny it). Holy crap, it's been four damn years since release.

The animation and character designs were pretty good, very fluid movement and fight sequences. I did think the chase with Bruno was lengthened a little, would have to go back and check, but I swear she was toughened up as opposed to the comics. The fight against the Joker in the amusement park was vicious, especially the final blows (I do think they changed what happens to his body, but again I'd have to check).

Emerson and Weller were both great, with the former making a very good voice for Joker.

Probably the one character I really despise in this story is Reagan. Superman is a huge bastard for blindly adhering to some warped notion that the President/Office thereof is infallible, and does whatever he's told, which is bad enough, but that he just doesn't grasp just how bad Gotham has it is enough to make me gag. He's arguably worse than Wulper (Joker's delusional doctor).

It would have been a lot better if this part had just been with the first, making a long but complete viewing experience. It has decent length and pacing, and is definitely worth seeing, but I just can't see how splitting it was totally necessary when the first film wasn't exactly a day-long epic itself.

                Recommend.
