"Cooper! Didn't I tell you to be home before the street lamps came on!"
A popular reviewer of bad old games is caught up in a plot to sell the even-worse sequel to the worst game of all time, and must learn the truth behind the legend in order to stop total destruction.
In other words, a terrible game company plans to make an intentionally-bad sequel to E.T.: The Extraterrestrial (Atari 2600). In order to make sure the game is a massive cash cow for them, they want to get The Nerd (James Rolfe himself) to review it in his usual "I hate everything about this" manner so that his fans buy countless copies for themselves.
Actually, they even raise this point in the film, with Rolfe not wanting people to play the games he reviews and hates but they want to experience said junk *because* it's so bad. Comes across as a bit self-aware and meta.
If you've never seen an episode of AVGN, then a lot of this might come off as a haphazard mix of drama, oddball comedy, and actual brilliance. But it really is like one of his episodes, just longer. He ties a lot of of things together so that there really aren't any loose ends (they show all kinds of random stuff, but then connect the dots).
I got a kick noticing all kinds of things from the series make their way in (Pickle, Kyle, Mike; tried to spot Bootsy but I don't think he's in it). And Howard Scott Warshaw is in it, too! And Lloyd Kaufman!
For a film that was completely funded by fans and is nothing like a big-budget film, I was actually very satisfied. It is completely in Rolfe's style, he doesn't stray from his formula, and it works exactly as needed.
Highly recommend.

I have to get that some day. I've been wanting it. I feel like I'll finally be contributing to all the free entertainment I've been getting from Cinemassacre.
Snowbeast (1977)
"I was hoping you could help me identify her.
-I must have seen her somewhere. Maybe I will recognize her when I see her face.
She does not have one."
No Country for Old Men (2007)
"If I don't come back, tell mother I love her.
-Your mother's dead, Llewelyn.
Well then I'll tell her myself.
Hard to believe this movie is nearing a decade. This movie should be a lesson in how to do movies right.
