I think I watched this movie twice in the past year, but I had a desire to see it again when I watched that documentary about the Miami cocaine cowboys. It's funny, when I first saw this movie I thought it was alright but didn't get the fandom. Now, it keeps crawling up my list.
Big Sur (2013)
"Something good will come out of all things yet and it will be golden and eternal and just like that. There's no need to say another word."
The people on Netflix didn't dig this movie and I guess I get that since it's about an alcoholic man slipping into depression, but I have to say that out of the handful of movies depicting Jack Kerouac, this one felt the most authentic as far as I understand him (and I've read a fair amount of and about him).
Forbidden Planet (1956)
"Guilty! Guilty! My evil self is at that door, and I have no power to stop it!"
8 Diagram Pole Fighter (1983)
"You handle your staff well."
Queen of the Damned (2002)
"Boo."
This adaptation (as opposed to the excellent IwtV) has a lot of problems, but then there are things I think they got really right. At any rate, whenever I read one of Rice's vampire books, I always seem to watch both again.
War Dogs (2016)
"Now I only sell to one gun nut.
-Oh yeah? Which one?
The U.S military, motherf***er! Wanna do a bong hit?"
The Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933)
"You can go to some place warm and I don't mean California."
House of Wax (1953)
"I'm moving up honey, no girl ever hits the jackpot till after she passes 14th street."
Outrage (2010)
"You know you're dealing with the yakuza, right?"
Interview with the Vampire (1994)
"Life without me would be even more unbearable."
Ghost Writer (2010)
"Some peace protesters are trying to kill me!"
The Cooler (2003)
"You look in the mirror, you don't like what you see, don't believe it. Look in my eyes, I am the only mirror you're ever gonna need."
Part of the same anthology gift set I got that has, among others, Night of the Living Dead. I was skeptical about this one, but since I want to get through all the flicks I brought it down to watch with my dad.
It's not exactly good, but I wouldn't ever call it bad. Weird, cliched, sleazy, and eyebrow-raising by the standards of both today and yesterday (it was intentionally made as an exploitation flick), it somehow entertains with its bizarre material. To be fair, I actually kind of liked William Woods (main character Maxwell).
My dad actually got something of a laugh out of Maxwell accidentally injecting the one guy with the wrong drug, and him going nuts. We both recognized the Poe connections.
I think the only issues I had were technical, since it isn't a particularly good transfer of a '30s flick.
