  • Old School (2003)

"You think I like avoiding my wife and kids to hangout with nineteen-year-old girls everyday?"

I don't know why I watch these movies, but I have to admit some parts make me really laugh.

Meh. I just throw this stuff out there because I love talking movies and I like to get recommendations. But I know a lot of people only pop in here when they post.

I really just like responding to posts honestly. I wish we had a mailbox type thing that allowed us to know when somebody had quoted one of our posts or something.

Jeez. Even I had to look that up. How'd you know that bit of trivia?

            • A few years ago for my birthday, my best friend gave me the entire run of the 1943 Batman serials (Lewis Wilson as Batman, Douglas Croft as Robin, Naish as Daka, and (I forget who) as Alfred). Series was a real trip to watch, and reading up on some of the changes it brought to the comics was fascinating.

              • CT Fletcher: My Magnificent Obsession (2015)

"I want people to say 'he was real.'"

A pretty good documentary about an award-winning body builder who had reconstructive heart surgery and went back to pressing and motivational speaking.

                Officer Downe (2016)

                "Shut up, Kung Fu!"

Bad attempt to be a self-aware modern grindhouse flick.

I've seen a few episodes of it, but the only serial I've seen all of was the Buster-Crabbe-starring Flash Gordon (which I liked a lot).

                • Hidden Figures (2016)

"We get to the peak together, or we don't get there at all."

Incredible film. Melfi did a wonderful job directing and with the screenplay/writing. Spencer, Monae, and Henson were all exemplary, and it was a treat seeing Parsons and Costner (man, Sheldon is an even bigger dick on the Big Screen than he is on the Small Screen!).

I remember as a young boy seeing a "what if America was still segregated?" commercial on TV and being deeply confused and somewhat concerned. Every time films come along that speak on persecution, discrimination, segregation and other forms of bigotry, it really gets to me. I absolutely love the work done to bring important stories to life and celebrate the efforts of people barely (if ever) acknowledged, but damn if they aren't draining (which, to be fair, is kind of the point, to get the audience to feel sympathetic to the experiences of the characters).

Gonna need this one for my collection one day. Amazing film.

                    • Day of the Dead: Bloodline (2018)

                      "One bite. One bullet."

A mostly pointless Bulgarian/American remake of Romero's classic.

                      The Pit (1981)

"They don't eat chocolate bars. You know what they eat?"

This Canadian horror movie would be hard to describe. It was bad. It was wacky. But I found it fun for at least one watch.

                        • Gates of Heaven (1978)

"There's your dog; your dog's dead. But where's the thing that made it move? It had to be something, didn't it?"

An Errol Morris documentary about a couple pet cemetery businesses and customers.

                          2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

"Look Dave, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over."

50th anniversary of the Kubrick classic. Not actually my favorite, but I do like to watch it now and again and parts of it are still brilliant.

                            • Cry-baby (1990)

                              "What's 'f**k' mean, Hector?
-Oh, Maggie, it's just a teen nonsense word Wanda uses to make herself feel all grown-up.
Your Honor, could we take Wanda the f**k home?"

                              Police Story: Lockdown (2013)

                              "All life is precious."

I definitely get why fans of the series don't dig this one. It's so far off the tone. But in and of itself, it was a decent older Jackie suspense (hostage/mystery) movie.

                              • God, I need to watch that film. Such a wonderful lampooning of greaser/square culture.

I remember absolutely loving the scene where Hatchet Face comes through the screen while the inmates are watching Creature from the Black Lagoon, and they all freak out at her.
