  • Alien 1979

"Will you listen to me, Parker? SHUT UP!"

After finishing the rage war series of AvP (see book thread) I wanted to get deeper into the series, so I started reading Alien: Out of the Shadows, which is a direct "in between-quel" from the 1st to 2nd movie, and officially sanctioned as canon. Since it references so much of the first movie, I just wanted to brush up on events, and get in that atmospheric zone that they created in 1979.

I really wish Weaver would get back into the franchise.

"Any more at home like you?
      -Uh, not really, no.
      I didn't think so."

I'd have to say this theme is my favorite John Williams piece (and I love a lot of his stuff). Sometimes, I even hear it when I'm reading a Superman comic and he does something real heroic or cinematic.

That's great, but my favorite piece of music from that film has always been the Smallville theme. Gives me chills. I also love The Planet Krypton theme. It's amazing how many memorable themes there are in that film, especially when you consider modern superhero scores, but hey that's Williams for you.

Oh, the Smallville theme! Yeah, that music really sells (in a scene with little dialogue) how Clark is torn. A part of him could easily stay there and be a small-town farmer and take care of Ma, but he also feels that pull to fulfill some unknown destiny. Great stuff.

I especially love it during the Jonathan Kent death scene. Its use in that scene makes me almost teary-eyed.

                  • I'm almost ashamed to admit this, but I saw

                    Deep Blue Sea 2 (2018)

...and what a crapfest it was. I really liked the original, and all this movie was was a sloppy rehash of the first movie, complete with crappy plot and subpar CGI bull sharks. Even the original was 10x better quality than this, and CGI has come a long way since then. Definitely don't recommend viewing this, even if you are drunk and there's nothing else on the intarwebs.

But still, better than The Exorcist II.

                        "Give me the cube, boy!"

The film that sent geewunners into hysterics and launched thousands of Bayhaters worldwide. Never had such a decisive and destructive interpretation of the franchise driven such animosity towards a film director, the material, and each other. Prequel haters? Puh-leez. Bunch of pussy wannabees who can't handle a single actor. Even the comparitively melodrama of the Beast wars saga (which was the first ripple in a wave of community disharmony) couldnt hold a candle to the hate mail, forum dramatics, and bitchy expressionists directed towards Michael Bay.

And he laughed all the way to the bank with your money.

Glad I got out of the fandom when I did.

The film? Blockbuster of 2008 by my standards. And that's coming from a geewunner who was alive and cognizant in 1984 when the first episode hit the airwaves.

"The girl's father is a real mother."

Your typical horror comedy about a hair band that goes to a small town that bans rock and roll takes shelter with a family of freaks that turn out to be Hitler and family, gets killed, and resurrected by a Sataninst song lyric to seek revenge.

I liked it a lot when it came out and there are still parts I do, but Sam's family gets more and more annoying to me. I recently listened to the Rifftrax for the movie and that was fun.
