      • For fans of Basil Rathbone. The man who drew this is a terrific artist and should be working in comics.

        • American Assassin (2017)

"Patriotism exists because people like and people like me need a higher cause."

Run-of-the mill flick where a victim of terrorists gets recruited by the CIA (and trained by Michael Keaton) while on a revenge kick. Expiring soon on Instant Netflix.

          In Search of Darkness (2019)

"I always think that horror movies are very healthy because they're a way of taking those fears and exorcising them, in a way, from your system."

Ordered this as a double pack when I pre-ordered (crowd funding) ISoD 2 and watched it last night with a friend who's also an 80s horror fan. Despite being over 4 hours, we decided to watch the whole thing and liked it.

          • MST3K: Diabolik (1968)

"He loves her so much he bought her a walk-in diamond."

            "Dr. Phibes is drunk again."

I knew I had seen this ages ago when it aired, but I forgot most of it including the ending of both the film and the series. I spent the episode wondering what dumb twist would send Mike and the Bots back into orbit but no, they really arrive on Earth and Pearl, Bobo and Brain Guy move on.

The film itself wasn't terrible. I was stunned to see Mario Bava had directed and that Dino de Laurentiis was the producer. I do like the idea of an over-the-top crime caper where a dude who's basically Batman engages in a series of high-profile thefts and a clever senior officer tries to capture him, while the regular organized criminals are attempting to save their own asses. The film really deserves a limited-series TV reboot.

"I'm not gonna die. Not here in Jersey!"

              Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)

"Even without a rogue AI taking over, I calculate a 74 percent chance that human civilization will collapse into barbarism. And in that eventuality, these weapons will be vital to protect my family. Also, this is Texas."

Watched this with my folks (who got it for me for Christmas). We all pretty much agreed that the premise/retcon was annoying, but there were good bits (included old, jaded Sarah).

              • So I made note that the last film we see Mike and the Bots watch is The Crawling Eye, and I looked it up: it really is an old horror flick, and the crew did watch it (though as of this typing I don't know if they watched it after the series ended or if they just did a throwback, probably the latter). I'll have to check it out now.

I'm a fan of Janet Munro, who appeared in it. You'll get to see her before Walt Disney had her teeth capped.

                      Freeway (1996)

"You see what happens when ya got bad manners?"

Re-watched this for its 25th anniversary. Very fun and clever modernizing of Little Red Riding Hood, where she's the daughter of a hooker; the wolf is a serial killer (Kiefer Sutherland); and the woods is the I-5 in California. Not a family film, but I recommend it.

"Don't believe everything you read on the inter-f**king-net."

Tubied this for my full-moon picture. Better than I expected (about a werewolf rock band trying to convert a new guitar player whose girlfriend is suspicious), but not good per se.

"She could eat corn on the cob through a picket fence!"

This is an old one, from the dawn of the series' second season (I am not a fan of Larry, he's no Frank). My dad was reluctant to check this out but he laughed at some of the jokes, especially the quoted one. When I looked the trailer up last week I saw one person comment how the film has decent atmosphere and could use a remake from someone like John Carpenter. I somewhat agree, a remake as a TV/streaming film rather than a big box office release could work well for this film especially with today's tech, and the film does indeed have fairly good atmosphere.

                            • The One-Hundred-Foot Journey (2014)

"You're a chef. I do not pay you to burn things. Take your knives and go."

An Indian family looks to start a restaurant in a small French town with a Michelin-star restaurant and its tough owner (Mirren) already in it. Very good.

                              The Foreigner (2017)

"IRA politics and terrorism are different ends of the same snake. Whichever end you grab, you still grab a snake.
-It makes a great deal of difference which end you grab, because one end will bite!"

Liked this one. Thought it was going to be a straight-up revenge movie, but that's only half the story. There's a lot of crime thriller/political intrigue in it. Chan plays a restaurant owner whose daughter is killed in a London bombing from an IRA splinter group. In seeking revenge, he targets on ex-IRA, current Northern Ireland minister played by Pierce Brosnan to get the info.
