I'm not usually one for complaining when a movie diverges from the book. For various reasons, a movie can never capture everything a novel can. But they didn't even really try with this remake of the literary classic. It wasn't just technical changes in this instance, but they completely changed the entire theme of the story. The whole point of the story is completely altered, as I guess they didn't want The Count to go as far into his plot for revenge as he did in the book.
Typical Hollywood ending, for a story that already had a wonderful ending, and who's theme put the movie's to shame.
Good performances though, and I did like the transformation they did with Caviaeieailaafafazal going from Dantes to The Count.
Just wish they wouldn't have fucked with the theme of the story, and man was Villefort's revenge plot about 10x more interesting in the book than in the movie.
Win Win.
I usually like Paul Giamatti even in his unlikable roles (Shoot Em Up, for example). But what he does here is just wrong. Which makes it really hard to care for him in this movie. On the other hand, the scenes when he's at home with his family felt more real than any other movie I have ever seen. I could almost smell the air. I haven't been to the US in 27 years. But this movie felt like I was there again. I really can't explain this.
The Tree.
Very clumsy metaphor about a girl that lost her father but can't let go. Very solid acting, especially from that girl. And then it devolves into that Simpsons episode in which Lisa wants to save that one tree. Meh.
Monkey Hustle (1976)
"I'll teach you to handcuff lightnin! Chain Thunder! Walk through the graveyard and set the dead at a wonder. That's the monkey hustle."
Subpar blaxploitation comedy. I think it missed the bar (even with Rudy Ray Moore in a supporting role) because it didn't seem to be going anywhere. The characters only had a goal near the end. Otherwise it was a collection of vignettes in the life of some Chicago street hustlers.
Bully- This was a brief look into the world of bullying from the perspective of the families and children that were picked on, one of which committed suicide by hanging himself in a closet.
The Principal of one of the schools in questions should be fired. "Kids will be kids" is complete bullshit... and I was shocked the parents weren't more involved. One kid was repeatedly punched and stabbed with a pencil on a daily basis on the bus ride to school and the bully just got a warning. No suspension, no nothing... and it was caught on tape! Bottom line: bullying happens because the schools allow it. If there was a zero tolerance policy, it would end. One time- suspension. Again- expelled.

Watched it too. And what I don't understand is how these adults don't have enough common sense to know that there are various levels of bullying. It gets to the point that a child is becoming physically abused by another, and yet nothing is done. Completely astounds me.
I found the movie to be a great thriller and well paced and as nearly as good as 28 Days Later. I love the interpretation of the Zombies.
3.5/5
interesting that U bring up 28DL, since thats wat I thought of the entire time I watched this; this was more about the how we saw Brad Pitt go about doing things during a an infected outbreak, than about mankind getting caught up in a war with the undead.
1 of the *many* puzzling moments I had w/this film involved the zombies who dropped over the Wall in Isreal: how were they getting up & RUNNING THEIR ASSES OFF from wat had to be atleast 10-story drops??? answer that for me, and I'll be a less unsatisfied man......

I watched this movie a few weeks ago and was kind of surprise parts of the movie takes place in mid-America and in small towns.
And yeah, it's disturbing the principal and bus driver does nothing. How could you let one kid lift up a seat cushion on the bus and shove another kids under it and sit on it.

Deadmen don't feel pain and they're reanimated flesh. So in theory, without pain they can get up and run like nothing. Football players and hockey players are known to perform at high level with broken bones.

The Parking Lot Movie (2010)
"I did not overcharge people to get more money. I overcharged people because they were dicks and deserved it. Vengeance is mine."

George Romero's take was that being dead their muscles would be suffering from decay and without fully functioning brains they'd lack higher coordination. Personally, I like that more.
