Fun and simple sequel with similarly silly scenes.
Really? I avoided that just assuming it was pointless. I’ll rethink that.

Also really liked that movie. It’s worth noting, however, that despite being pretty accurate, Wahlberg’s character (who is your main viewpoint) is fictional. He’s a composite of several people (for instance there was a real cop who got in that nighttime shootout, but he wasn’t one that handled security at the marathon).

    • Heels. Its a show on stars about wrestling. Stephen amell from arrow is in it as well as Alexander ludwig from vikings. Interesting real wrestling history they threw in there

        "Do you have a name?
-My name is Tamara Amalia Jorvi Karushan. And yours is?
        Conan.
        -Conan; that's it?
How many names do I need?"

Re-watched for its 10th anniversary. I know it's not great and I much prefer the Milius film, but it still has stuff I like in it. I definitely like it more than most people I've heard talk about it.

        • This gets bonus points for bringing back two of the original characters (though only one is played by the same actor), but then loses them for the ridiculous time traveling premise that just feels weird in this particular franchise. What's left is only a halfway decent movie about righting wrongs that really should have been called something else and avoided the Sandlot connections altogether. Not great, but not entirely horrible either. A solid 'meh'.

Yeah, I did too, but figured it would be an easy watch and it was surprisingly descent. You can continue avoiding the third one, though, unless you really want to see Squints all grown up and coaching a little league team.

"You look like you've never been honky tonkin' before.
                -I haven’t.
Well, it’s tricky, but I'll talk you through it."

Speculative historical fictional about the final trip and last few days of Hank Williams (played by ET’s Elliot). I Saw the Light is better, but this was fun.

                • You're just jealous you can't be cool like me.

                  Sabata (1969)

"The ways of the Lord are infinite."

A daring bank heist attracts the attention of a notorious gunslinger, whose interference drives the masterminds to attempt to kill him. Many shootings follow.

Lee Van Cleef was pretty good, we get a load of stunts (especially jumps as executed by the character Alley Cat), and the shootouts are fairly good, especially the huge showdown at the end. I think the only really silly thing is that goofy compact pistol Van Cleef uses, because there are hidden barrels in the grip so that he always has another shot).

William Berger as Banjo was an interesting character. I was kind of annoyed by the constant jangling of all the bells on his clothing but given how there's the endless jangling of spurs in so many Westerns, I suppose it's a relief to only hear it from one character. Berger also gives a pretty good performance and his actual banjo has some curious tricks to it.

Finally we have Carrincha. He's hilarious, and the whole thing with his medal is actually a good character piece.

My dad was repeatedly amazed at the size and elaborate interior of the bar/inn where much of the action took place. He wasn't wrong, the place is decked out for a small town, almost too ritzy. The villain, Stengel, also had a lavish estate.

Yul Brynner is up next as Sabata. Been a while since I've seen him on screen.

I picked up the trilogy on DVD at CVS a while back and keep meaning to get to it. Never seen them before but they were a good price and I like westerns.

                    • My dad asked about a Viva Sabata film and I told him I had no idea. Google also just has the trilogy as the actual Sabata films, so my dad must have been confused by the similarly-named Viva Zapata (1952).

I have the trilogy on DVD too, because my dirtbag stepdad didn't take it when he walked out of the family. So now they're mine and I can enjoy him like he never got around to (along with other films I got him, sitting on the shelves for years).

Watched with the fam for its 40th anniversary and for the full moon (for two months in a row the full moon coincided to the day with the 40th anniversary of a classic werewolf flick).

At least there’s a good result from a bad situation minor though it may be.

                            • Emotional documentary about a man trying to return a katana that his grandfather took from a Japanese officer at the end of World War II to the officer's family. It delves into the meaning and perceptions of such katana on both sides of the conflict, but with a focus on how the Japanese people look upon them today. It's definitely worth watching if you have an interest in Japanese culture, or even just WWII in general.
