Stalag 17 (1953) IMG_9452.jpg “I’m tellin’ ya, Animal, these Nazis ain’t kosher!” —70th anniversary. Free on Youtube. Hadn’t seen it in years. More serious (though not entirely) than the Hogan’s Heroes it inspired.
Walking Tall (1973) 24144_Front_11.jpg “The law of the land shouldn’t be for sale.” —Missed the 50th anniversary because I didn’t have access until Parmount+. Had heard about this, but didn’t realize how brutal the real story was.
Gate of Hell (1953) 6ceVYhhcIgEauUKdrYoIUWyAqfy.jpg “I know it's unreasonable.” —Depressing but good. A samurai is granted a reward for loyalty during a time of rebellion and insists on a certain woman he’s come across even when he finds out she’s married.
....and literally that's all that will be remembered about this movie. Dumb dialogue, an attempt at mixing Aztec religion with environmentalism, and roughly 5 minutes of footage regarding "the big ass shark" in a movie over 90 minutes long. Most of that footage, by the way, is comprised of shadows in very oily sea water surrounding a drilling platform. Even for a shark enthusiast like me, there's not much to enjoy in this rather bland tale of a dude who needs to man up. The money shot is towards the beginning. You'll know it when you see it, if you choose to watch it at all.
The Onion Movie (2008) s-l400.jpg “The internet went down for three hours this morning, plunging the nation into productivity. The outage, which caused major work startages from New York to California, prevented an estimated 120 million American employees from messing around on the web at work.”
World War Z (2013) 1SWBSYJsnyhdNRfLI1T6RsCxAQ4.jpg “If you can fight, fight. Be prepared for anything.” —Didn’t necessarily need to mark the 10th anniversary of this, but I had a copy, the fam wanted to see it, and the last time I did, I hadn’t read the book. I don’t hate it like some of the book fans I did (I don’t really think the book is filmable as is).
Psycho II (1983) latest?cb=20200619162510.jpg “Would you care to share my toasted cheese sandwich?” —40th anniversary.
Underworld (2003) 936full-underworld-poster-1-.jpg “You’re acting like a pack of rabid dogs.” —Watched for the full (strawberry) moon. I should’ve waited a few months for the 20th anniversary, but I didn’t notice (remember) the date until I was almost done.
Knock at the Cabin (2023) share.jpg “Maybe the truth is that the end was happening long before we got to this cabin.”
2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) HD-wallpaper-suki-2-fast-2-furious-hot-pink-devon-aoki-suki-2-fast-2-furious-honda-s2000.jpg “Suki, when you gonna pop my clutch, huh?” —Hard to believe this turned 20. I remember seeing it free thanks to a coupon that came with the DVD to #1. Starring Devon Aoki’s awesome midriff and Devon Aoki’s cute freckled face, and Devon Aoki’s . . . have I mentioned how Suki is the one character I really wanted to return to the franchise.
Art School Confidential (2008) HSCONF.jpg?fit=765%2C1082&ssl=1.jpg “Oh, wow! Another ironic pop-culture reference. She's a keeper!” —Interesting, but weird dark comedy about a kid entering art school who wants to be a great artist and get the girl, but becomes overwhelmed by the pretentions and fakery. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either probably because the main character isn’t that great of a person either.
The Mountain Men (1980) s-l1600.jpg “Haven't you ever been lost? -Been fearsome confused for a month or two, but I ain’t never been lost!”
—Not as good as the similarly themed Jeremiah Johnson, but not bad. Brian Keith is excellent.
Trading Places (1983) eddie-holly-trading-places-sm.jpg?1589143200.jpg “Just be yourself, sir. Whatever happens, they can’t take that away from you.” —I usually watch this during the holidays, but decided to celebrate its 40th anniversary. Some unPC bits would not make it today.
Alien 1979. As a kid i think it was aliens i watched religiously. Ive seen the original 79 one roughly 5 times. Fantastic film that holds up well till now in 2023. I hope alien Romulus follows the old formula of practical over cgi
A Futile and Stupid Gesture (2018) 1-9503638809.jpg “Between the magazine and the radio show, I barely had time for my other hobbies, like being a terrible husband.” —Really like Netflix’ satirical biographical look at Doug Kenney and National Lampoon.
Max Troy: You already have, the kind of money you make. What do they pay you to carry that badge around, 40 cents an hour?
Sgt. Joe Friday: You sit down! That badge pays 464 dollars a month. That's what the job's worth. I knew that when I hired on. $67.40 comes out with withholding. I give $27.84 for pension and 12 bucks for widows and orphans. That leaves me with $356.76. That badge is worth a dollar 82 an hour so Mister, better settle back into that chair because I'm about to blow about 20 bucks of it right now.

Hal Jordan: I'll tell you, Carol, it's quite a sight up here. All those stars, the blue water. Reminds me of that night in Cabo. Remember the restaurant?
Last Action Hero (1993) 74394.jpg “Something is rotten in the state of Denmark, and Hamlet is taking out the trash.” —30th anniversary and another I remember seeing in theaters. I also had a standee of Arnold/Jack thanks to being friends with the local video store manager.
Finished Wednesday. Man that was awesome. I need to find the original comics because this wasnt the 90s Adams family i grew up on. Its got a detective type story and Wednesday is badass.
I'm surprised the PC stuff* didn't bother you more. Some of it's grating, but I do still enjoy it overall and watching ep. 5 of 8 right now.
Some pc stuff like small one liners i can ignore but if its totally emasculating men than you can bet id be raging about it. Its interesting we are having this discussion because ironically my neighbor and i were talking about protected classes and how its unfair and unconstitutional to refuse someone a job with tattoos. Being gay trans whatever is a protected class. All religions are protected classes all races are protected classes. But if your a heavily tatted person no job at a bank or a 6 figure a year position if you have hand tattoo. That should change because not every tattoo person is a criminal or whatever. It really is ass backwards

Fair. They're mostly snarky comments from Wednesday. She just seems more political than I think of as opposed to just macabre. As I say, I'm enjoying it.
