Really? I thought it was fucking terrible. I didn't mind the vulgarity so much, but Vince Vaughn turned the Vaughn-ness up to above 10 and it was just too much Vaughn. And there were just too few laughs.

I thought this was going to be too romantic, but it's just about enough, not to make me
Decent film.Last edited by Frank Castle; 07-06-2013, 12:13 AM.

Jonah Hex.
Poor movie, it never had a chance. Great actors (Michael Fassbender, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Lance Reddick...) with nothing to do. Idiotic changes from the source material. But the cardinal sin: it was just boring.

Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song (1971)
"This film is dedicated to all the Brothers and Sisters who have had enough of the man."
Okay, so this film is famous/infamous for a few reasons. Its notoriety is because it's the first of blaxploitation movie (beat out Shaft by 3 months). It's also very cheap and shot very strangely (lots of quick cuts and funny little camera tricks). Melvin Van Peebles (father of Mario, who plays 12 year-old Sweetback) wrote, produced, directed, scored, and starred. Part of its notorious reputation is due to Van Peebles (reportedly) not simulating but taking the "method" approach to the several sex scenes. That makes the film arguably porn, though the angles used in most of those scenes don't prove whether they were real or not. Either way, it's still a rough film but I'm glad I finally saw it.Last edited by Space Cop; 07-06-2013, 10:04 PM.

Catch-22 (1970)
"Captain, unless I am mistaken, you are out of uniform."
A bizarre, dark satire about war and financial opportunism set in World War II Italy, starring Alan Arkin (the youngest I've ever seen him) and a helluva lotta other stars. The medal awarding scene, from which I took that line, is easily the funniest in the film.Villain Draft 3: Fourth Place Winner

Snow White and the Huntsman.
Huh. Not bad. Not bad at all. This has been the most pleasant surprise of the year. I was expecting soulless trash for the Twilight crowd, but it ended up reminding me of the great fantasy movies of the 80s and 90s. You know, Princess Bride, Legend, Labyrinth and the likes. It never hit that level of quality and uniqueness, but it came closer than any other fantasy fairy tale movie I've seen in recent years. The set design was amazing, the costumes were great. And it managed to have this dichotomy of the ultrarealistic, almost Game-of-Thronesy medieval life and the magical, whimsical fairy tale world with the fairies and the Mononoke-esque mushrooms and that wonderful plant turtle. If anything, I would have liked to see more of that magical world within the world of the movie.
I think people hate this movie just for Kristen Stewart, and not even because of her acting (which was decent, far better than her empty eyed Twilight character) but because of her reputation. Yes, she was in that atrocious series of sparkleromance movies, and she sucked in those movies. But everyone involved in those movies sucked. In Snow White, she really wasn't bad.
But her reputation kinda overshadowed the heart that went into making this movie. Which is a bit of a shame.
7/10.
