If we are honest Nintendo hasn't had strong 3rd party support since the SNES, that is a long time ago now.
With the direction they are going with the Wii U I cant see Nintendo ever returning to manufacture a hardcore console, they have alienated the core market for too long, its odd because they said they would be different with this machine, but go and do the opposite again.
There is market for a kiddy family console, so they will do ok, but as the years go by I dont think Mario is going to be enough, they already turned the poor guy into a man whore shoving him into so many games.
The problem is only Nintendo games make money on Nintendo machines, 3rd parties dont want to waste time on a game that aint going to sell.
It also seems like they're forcing themselves to come out with some wacky gimmick to sell their machines now, they're about one step away from producing a VirtualBoy, it can go either way.
I think the Wii U will do ok in its first year but fade away by the 2nd, I just cant see it being a hit like the OG Wii, which seems like Nintendo think it can.
Again it will be down to Mario, Smash Bro, Kart and all his other games to prolong the death of this console, and then what? a new console again, aimed at who? the mom's and dad's who are still buying OG Wii's and just about ready to buy a Wii U (e.g it would have been out 2-3 years lower price etc).
I think theirs a Nintendo fanboy in all of us and its just sad to see them go down this route, I wish they were more aggressive (buy some top studios sign more deals for exclusive content/games) and have hindsight to see where the company has been going since the n64, in the next 6 years they could well be forced out of the console hardware business (not handheld they got that on lock down) by default by having almost zero 3rd party stuff.
MS and Sony have their own problems too, so its not like they're off the hook, but Im more worried for Nintendo at this point.

So having Ass Creed, Mass Effect, Batman: Arkham City means that Nintendo isn't trying to get the hardcore market back? Of course they are gonna have the traditional titles in Mario, Super Smash Bro's etc etc, but I'm pretty positive that other developers will want to develop games for the Wii U. Plus I think somebody said in the other thread that because E3 isn't the only gaming show of the year that most likely we will get more Wii U information before November.
I want Luigi's Mansion 2 already......

I bought and played Batman months ago, Its done, how many people are going to buy a 60 dollar game that is over a year old? when it will be in the bargain bin in the 360/PS3 section for less than 20 dollars, that's even assuming theirs anybody interested in that game that hasn't picked it up yet.Originally posted by Iggy View Post

Devs are working on next gen games, Watch Dogs, 1313 and games we dont even know about.

Nintendo can not carry on like this, you watched the conference, tell me how any of that was supposed to appeal to a core gamer, or even a Nintendo fan that wants to play Fzero etc?
Nintendo needs a game like Gears or MGS, a third party game that is massive and only on its machine, why is a hardcore gamer going to drop 250-300$ on Wii U when he can get the same games, with pretty much the same graphics on a 360 for 99$.
You're right theirs time for the them to show some more, but its been a year since they announced the damn thing and still this close to release they dont have nothing worthy of showing, the best they could do was New Super Mario bros U?
Remember when the n64 launched and we got Mario 64 and everyone was like holy shit! I cant say the same for this new Mario, atleast give me Mario Galaxy 3 or something worthy, an 8bit HD version of Mario is not going to cut it in 2012, I'm not saying the game wont be fun, but its not going to make me drop 300$ for it either.
We will have to see if they have any surprises, I hope so, because if their aint no Zelda or some other big games on or very near launch, then Nintendo are going to struggle in the coming years.
They are very close to SEGA's last days as a manufacturer, SEGA had big name franchises as well, and the dreamcast was actually a good machine, it just never had the core gamer backing it and more importantly it lost the backing of dev teams.
Lego City does look like fun.

Ive said it b4, and I'll say it again: _N_ lost the core gaming audience when it marketed the Wii to old geezers & mothers-who-dont-play-games-but-wanna-connect-with-their-chillens, and their new thingamabob having a tablet interface is LAME/GHEY/CRAPTASTIC/ST00PID..........take yur pick.
if they want to attract GAMERS, then they shouldve designed a system w/them in mind, and not that B&N Nook -wannabe w/extra buttons sprinkled around the sides; I find it funny that they would make THAt fucking thing, but just a few years ago complain about how console interfaces were "too convoluted/complex".
