It was tricky getting to see Shin. I stayed on top of it. The fam and I were set to go first night at a theater about an hour away, but one of us was sick, so I returned the tickets and ended up finding a theater only fifteen minutes away playing it that weekend. I won't say any more about it til you see it.

It was actually the first Japanese Godzilla movie I've seen in theater (that I recall). I heard about 2000 and Final Wars, but didn't realize they were out until they were gone (I wasn't as into the kaiju news then). I really wish there was more of an effort to import Japanese movies here and less on Americanizing them.

Rumors are the next Gamera will also go CGI. Sadly, that leaves only Ultraman (which we only seem to get like 10% of here) staying true to the suits.

Hope you stick around now. What did you think of Shin Godzilla? I was disappointed that Toho abandoned suitmation, but liked the fresh approach both of the disaster response movie and an evolving Godzilla.

I guess I am, because it was something I saw years ago (still liked it, though). I'll have to track that down. Thanks.

Looked good. Is that the same one we'll see officially on Nov. 3? Anyway, what you can see of the Big G looks pretty good and not a completely different monster like GiNO.

Was it? I thought it was the exact opposite. Stange. Maybe it was all the cut stuff on NSA. I watched it on DVD and it had hours of extra. Maybe CLM didn't and that's how I got the impression of it being briefer.

I've actually considered buying both, if I can get them cheap. I can definitely watch them again and it would make my Freddy and Jason collections seem more complete.

Yep. I've seen both documentaries. I wish CLM was as extensive as NSA (which is just awesome), but it was still really good as is.

Cool. I like them all (though Seed least of all). #2 and #1 are my favorites. I used to consider Chucky my favorite of the horror franchise icons, but practically I re-watch Jason movies a lot more.

YouTube. This is the one I used.

BTW: Would you say Curse was better than Seed of Chucky? I may just buy it Tuesday since I have all the other ones (I'm a bit of a completist).

IIRC, it was more script-level problem than any actual moral or proprietary one. I.e., how does a bullet-vulnerable simian even stand up to a nuke-proof, fire-breathing dinosaur? I think there was a version where it was a little more of a draw. I think the moderator said there was never a decisive Godzilla-win version.

Well, only the moderator answered but he said all he's heard was all that TV report stuff was to fill time more than showing any particular bias.

I said as an aside that I hated the whole Godzilla's brain is smaller than a gumball thing and everyone seemed to agree that even Godzilla's behavior in the first 3 (let alone later) was too sophisticated for an under-developed brain.

It was one of my favorite parts. It was in a small room but the moderator was very knowledgeable. He talked about what brought the movie about, the difference between the Japanese and English Dub etc, how Toho debated who would win for some time. I even asked a question (whether the bit about Godzilla's brain size could have been American bias), which must say something of the friendly environment there because I'm not comfortable with public speaking usually.
