It's possible, but don't forget that we already have Birds of Prey. Marvel hadn't had a team like that when they created A-Force.

Big Daddy Dave Skywalker 09-28-2019 10:26 PM

DC should try to out do BOP and make a whole team title of all women. Like 7 or 8 members, all women. Just to see if there really is an audience for such a thing. Heck, make all the villains female too. Just avoid men in the title altogether and see what happens. Make it pass whatever feminists tests and rules apply and give it an honest chance. No romantic relationships unless they are lesbian. None of the heroes in sexy revealing costumes.

Is it just me or is that a strange fit? I read and liked (though I did get burned out) their HQ run, but their specialty seems to be 4th-wall-breaking comedy. That doesn't scream black label to me unless they just get raunchy (which honestly wouldn't add much for me).

Michael Heide 10-04-2019 05:42 AM

I wouldn't mind if they brought their The Pro game.

Yeah, I'll likely try it.

Great to see more of Amethyst. I liked the New52 book, and Young Justice should be a solid pilot for this new series.
But this probably means that Rocket Girl won't return. I loved that book.

Everything we know about DC’s rumored 5G plan

As the weekend continued, Bleeding Cool dissected the timeline, connected more dots, and reported that the crux of 5G is that characters like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Aquaman and maybe others will cede their mantles to replacements, some of which will be surprising (Batman, for example, will be replaced by Luke Fox, rather than a Robin, a Batgirl, an Orphan, etc.).

Mister Ed 10-11-2019 01:10 PM

Sounds like a good jumping off point to me. Unless it is just a gimmick that will be undone in a few months.

Space Cop 10-11-2019 01:43 PM

I'll probably keep up with GL either way, but if it's not Clark and Bruce, I'll probably drop the Supes and Bat titles.

buffalorock 10-11-2019 04:19 PM

Seems like an Age of Apocalypse or Batman Beyond/Future's End thing. If kept separate, might not be too bad, but I have pretty much zero interest and doubt thats how they will do it.

Andrew NDB 10-11-2019 04:47 PM

Maybe this explains the Blackstars business. It's a way to still let Morrison write Hal while somebody else becomes the 2814.1 GL. Then when the gimmick is over, it all goes back to normal and Morrison continues writing TGL.

That said, fuck this. This isn't going to save sales one iota, just push people out.

Wonder Woman Celebrates 750 Issues With Massive, 96-Page Release

The best thing about this is a new cover by George Perez.

Still got a few issues of Aquaman to catch up on, I'm loving that new cover with his tattoos. I'm sorta interested in how Superman revealing his ID will be different than the last few times he gave up on being Clark, and how it affects everyone else close to him. Hawkman has been one of my favorite titles again month after month, I dig the updates to his armor both in the variant and his Sky Tyrant design. Might get back into the Terrifics despite being salty my favorite New Age of Heroes characters are no longer getting panel time [Sideways and the new Damage], I love Rex Mason's dog! A 'Wonder Comics' crossover is something I have been looking forward to even though I don't much like Bendis' YJ. It just seems like they're trying too hard with that title now. If it was equal parts classic YJ and the YJ animated series... they'd have a lot more people's interest. Rather than creating two new legacy characters [Teen Lantern and Jenni Hex] and reimagining Amethyst, Bendis should've went the route of Marv Wolfman or Peter David and created heroes without ties to existing heroes or dug up more old/forgotten teen hero concepts. Flash is still consistently awesome. I'm also still picking up anything LoSH related, but I reeeeally think Bendis is wasting time with Rose & Thorn.

I think the Dark Multiverse [Elseworlds redux] collection is what I'll put money on rather than buying the individual issues. That Spectre Omnibus will be MINE!

A few thoughts/comments:
  • The lineup of creators on Wonder Woman #750 looks very good. Prestige format is also a plus.
  • This Azzarello/Lupacchino Birds of Prey book is kind of a head scratcher. Originally announced as an ongoing, then converted to a Black Label series last month and now a Black Label 96 page one shot. West thinks it's cause they're trying to free up talent for 5G but I don't think the timing makes sense. Part of me wonders if either editorial or the creative team decided they didn't want to continue it since there another Harley Quinn/BOP black label project announced at NYCC.
  • With Batman/Catwoman seemingly delayed Batman continues to double ship, wonder what the hold up is.
  • I am very much looking forward to all the Hill House Horror books.
  • The cover to Superman: Heroes #1 made me laugh just because half the heroes that Superman is "revealing" his identity to on it would already know he's Clark Kent, Hitch didn't think that through.
  • I cannot bring myself to care about the Hell Arisen mini.
  • Seems pretty obvious that Scott Snyder will be continuing his story in a new book even if he's leaving Justice League. I wonder who will take over JL? A big name or do they shove a nobody on it and put out filler?
  • Just put Nightwing out if it's misery DC. Just do it.
  • I like that DC has given it's Black Label oversize format a name (Prestige Plus), I hope we continue to see more books in this format even if it is a pain in the ass to store.
  • Like the Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? vibes on that Superman #19 cover.
  • Doom Patrol cancelled again. I assume that's the end for the Gerard Way era.
  • Absolute Fables. Nice.
  • Like most predicted it seems that Vertigo books are now Black Label but there are still inconsistencies. Absolute Fables Volume 1 is Black Label but Preacher: The 25th Anniversary Omnibus Volume 1 is not? Though that could just be a mistake in the solicitations.
  • Covers I like:

Me too. I plan to try some and pass them on to my mother, who's a Hill fan.

Michael Heide 10-19-2019 03:46 PM

I did that with my mother years ago. I got the books back in... not-exactly-mint.
