    ok, how about this one...

    Issue 222, March 1988...

Even Salakk says it... they killed using their rings...

No lethal force there and Hal's hair is still brown...

But Sinestro's alive. So that story is non-canon.

brush up on your GL history lol

Sinestro was killed but he transferred his mind into the CBP on OA before his death... efectively photocopying himself...

the copy was later found by Hal Jordan (on yet another tour into the CPB) while he was looking for the Yellow Impurity (Issues 223 / 225)

The GL Corps killed Sinestro... it doesn't matter that he was brought back... he was killed by the GL Corps using their rings...

There was a bit of killing in Volume 2. Especially when Guy went to invade Qward.

GL 150 - Arkkis Chummick seemingly kills a Qwardian
GL 165 - The Gls were forced to kill Krystal tears ago.
GL 182 - Yron accidentally kills a good number of his people with a creation of his ring.
GL 198 - Guy commands Hal to use his ring to kill; obviously it has that capability.
GL 201 - Guy kills a bunch of alien invaders.

And of course Sinestro is excecuted by the GLs.

But this was changed in volume 3. One memorable scene had the ring refuse to kill for Jack Chance. And GLs have never killed in Vol 3 (save Hal killing Kilowog, but that's willpower overriding the rules placed ont he ring). I think that's where the rule really came from. It's not something Jhons made up on his own. Technically, he just set things the way they were in Vol. 2. when he enabled Lethal force. Except now, it gets more fanfare.

Maybe there is a fine line here. You can't kill in a pre-meditated way or out of anger, in essence, murder. But killing out of defense or punishment for crimes is okay; provided it is justified. Wars and battles are never good, but someone has to win and there are many that die on both sides. Things need to be made right and justice needs to be served.

Wouldn't explain Chance. He was trying to kill out of self-defence and was still brought right to OA for a reprimand.

It's just a writer's flub, I think. A writer's flub that went way out of control. GL hadn't killed for so long that the writers just assumed he couldn't kill at all. It didn't help that Kyle never killed either, added on to the fact that DC's heroes as a rule don't kill.

Re-reading some of Vol. 3 actually has GLs ready to kill using their rings. I forget the issue, bu Virox (I think) was ready to kill some Qwardians for attacking them before the group decided against it.

idk about the rest of you, but the Artwork on Kilowog is balls to the fucking wall awesome on the 3rd panel.
The Stethoscope looks funny on the other hand...

I totally disagree with you Hulkster. Even in real life, the police are allowed to use lethal force, when needed. When it's in defense of self and others, then it is totally acceptable and the GLC after all is at it's core a police force. Should it be used all the time? Of course not, but I think we are going to see it a lot considering that "Blackest Night" is going to be an all out war being fought by several different sides.
